“Thanks Skycall. I was just thinking of you today knowing I'll miss the hike Sunday. Bummer. I'm having the surgery Sunday at 11:15 to remove the tumor. Tell everyone (my real friends at least) that I miss them.
Then I leave for my extended (9 day) trek on the 21st. So I'll see you when I get back.

Cool. I worked on a sod crew one summer. The landscape contractor hired several part-timers from the U of FL, U of TN, and Clemson U. My job was to follow behind them and make sure they kept the "green side up"...”

“T... we stayed at Bishop Lakes. The first night was supposed to be in Dusy Basin but half the group coming from the south got stuck below Big Pine. The Highway Patrol closed 395 because of a sage brush fire.

Hi wannabp. Maybe if most western trips were not invitation only, that would change. Few western trips by 'locals' are open to most TTers.

I can see why some of the Sierra trips are private. It is hard to get permits(when required) for so many people. You have people that sign up as maybes and then bail. When you have to put money out in advance you can get screwed esp if one person is getting the permits. Plus how many folks from the east know are the rules and regualtions about getting permits 6 months in advance.

“T, it was around 48-50 degrees in the wee hours and 75-80 in the daylight. But it was 109 in Bishop :)

“109? Holy Toledo! Good thing we won't be in Bishop... The higher elevation temps sound yummy. ;) 48-50 is pretty warm for night time. It's supposed to cool off a bit this week. Who knows what it will do next week. :p

“I cancelled it cause I had to go in for a minor surgery today. The surgery went well and I'm very sore. I've got a 2 1/4 in stitch on my chest and some vicidin. I hated it and I was a big baby. No drugs and had to be awake.”

Do you want to go on a trip with 18 other people? (last year it was 20) Didn't think so.
Sort of looses grandeur when your group is spread out over miles of trail, some Speeders some Geezers.

Just saying that if you don't meet that many Eastern TTers, please don't let your feelings be hurt if lots of people don't 'know' you.
