back in WI
Hi all,

I recently came back to WI from Iowa City, Iowa. I've got two girls (8 and 5), so I don't get out all that much. But I wanted to touch base with this site (now that I am completely relocated).

There are a few, most of whom I never met. I'm close to the NW corner in a very little town called Trego. Welcome.

Graska - I think my daughter may have subbed in your area as an art teacher. She's currently going through the NORDA certification and lives in Conover.

I was in the Smokies just before I moved back here. I'd like to do another trip in the fall somewhere.

I used to live in WI, but live really close and visit Illinois' State Park often.

Nimblefoot, what school was she at? Conover is NE of me by just a few miles.

Eagle River, Phelps, Minoqua, etc.. Most recently and most often at Eagle River. I believe there is a long term (1 year) substitute art teaching position open at Minoqua. If they count her 5 years of subbing as practicum, she may get the job. She's a good person and could use a break.

I spend about 4 months a year hiking, backpacking, fishing, canoeing and hunting from our family cabin on Lake Owen, near Drummond Wisconsin. There are a lot of recreational opportunities up in the north woods.

nice to meet you patty, and welcome. i love hiking in WI and live in the chicagoland suburbs. we are planning a large get-together this october on the NCT (in Michigan, not Wisconsin technically, but some of the core Wisconsin crew will be there).

Check it out and I hope you can join us and meet many of the Wisconsin/Michigan/Midwest hikers. This would be a great chance to meet some really fun people -and- do some outstanding backpacking.

Nimble, I work at the Minocqua school dist. if she gets in there let me know, I'll stop in and say hi! It may not be Min. though, possibly Arbor Vitae. The Min. art teacher has been there since the beginning of time. Good people deserve breaks, you're right!

Wherever it is, the art teacher is taking a leave of abscence for one year due to being in a "delicate condition" (not sure what that means).

I assume that means pregnant, something our art teacher can't possibly be. Unless being a throwback from the '60's grandpa makes one delicate!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for her!

I'll have to check my calendar for that one. Maybe I will put in as a maybe just for good measure.

Finger crossing is good, but other appendages crossed would have been better in the birth control sense.

I'd like to be, but around this place there be some serious competition. Maybe if we had age categories like in road races I'd have a chance. Of course there's always that damn Nowlimmer, but he's way beyond my meager years:)

jimmy san has had a very bad year for hiking, the worst ever. i was "saving it up" for my three-week trip on the JMT which is supposed to start on the 3rd of August but instead my last day at my job of 8 years is on the 3rd of august and i start a new job on the 6th. ok, so i am stoked about the new job but it took me three years to get enough vaca time to do the JMT trek. i'll get a check for all that time i didn't use, which is nice, but i have to start to layer on the hours again at the new job AFTER i have established myself.

so i didn't get to do but a few trips this year. so far it has been:

1. Week hike to Clear Creek in Grand Canyon in March.
2. Batcave buttkicker at mammoth cave with my sons
3. Crash Bang! Farewell Thang in RRG
4. RRG climbing weekend.

that is -IT- when normally i would have 2x this on the books by now. terrible.

i -am- planning the NCT trek in october and also the "all about the kids" trip coming up in a week or so.

i am thinking of pulling a week in the fall in the grand canyon to hike in the nankoweap trail area.

i only have day-trips in the kayak under my belt... lots of fun but not the reason i bought a hauler of a boat.

so this has been a bust of a year for me, and it has mostly been a self inflicted wound.

-so- i am really looking forward to seeing everyone in october on the NCT!

It sounds like you forgot about my KT weekender trip just before the NCT. Are you starting to lean towards "no"?
