“The NFL may soon get its first face-to-face backlash following the federal indictment of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick on multiple dogfighting charges.

The animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has scheduled a protest in front of the league offices in New York on Friday morning.

"This is to show our frustration over the NFL's failure to take a strong stance against Michael Vick," PETA spokesman Dan Shannon said.

The call for protest comes as the NFL has yet to punish Vick, who was charged by federal authorities on Tuesday with competitive dogfighting, procuring and training pit bulls for fighting, and conducting the enterprise across state lines.”

With all due respect Tango, and I'm not looking for an argument here, it is people like you that our court system was set up the way it is. It is to discourage the indictment being as bad or the same thing as a guilty verdict. Someone can be guilty as sin and they may have done every single thing they are charged with but you can NOT punish someone until they are found guilty in a court of law. Our system may be a little flawed but it is the greatest system in the world.

We have everyone running around like madmen doing everything in their power to destroy this guy before he's even had his day in court. It's even worse in politics. And there is absolutely no justice for someone who gets ripped up like this if they are found not guilty. Destroy them on page 1 and exonerate them on page 14b.”

That's why so many people found not guilty in criminal court still have to pay the piper in civil court. If you think a TV show is of corrupting our children, stop watching it or buying the products of their sponsors. If you think Nike uses child labor in China, call them out on public forums and stop buying their products. If you think Vick shouldn't be a hero because someone allowed dog fighting on his property, then don't buy the things he endorses.

You don't need a guilty charge to act on your convictions.”

Follow a trial from the pretrial motions that exclude 'prior bad acts', or a myriad of other things. I have spoken with many jurors who said "Boy if I'd have known he (insert whatever here) I'd have voted differently.

“FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -- Nike suspended its lucrative contract with Michael Vick on Friday, while Reebok took the unprecedented step of stopping sales of his No. 7 jersey.

In another dose of bad news for the indicted quarterback, a top trading card company announced it was pulling Vick's likeness from any new packs.

Facing protests from animal-rights groups, Nike announced it was suspending Vick's endorsement deal without pay, as well as halting sales of Vick-related shoes and other products at its retail stores.

"Nike is concerned by the serious and highly disturbing allegations made against Michael Vick, and we consider any cruelty to animals inhumane and abhorrent," Nike spokesman Dean Stoyer said in a statement.

Reebok, the official uniform supplier of the NFL, said it would stop selling Vick's replica jersey at retail stores and through its Web site.

Donruss, one of four major trading card companies, has decided to pull Vick's card from any future 2007 releases, according to Beckett Media, which covers the collectibles industry.
