Minimum WageView Messages“Any adult making minimum wage for more than 2 months ...... You do the figur'n on that one. Even McDs pays more to start. A federal min wage is assinine. Is $7.30 in NY = $7.30 in Mississippi?” 8:00:55 PM 7/30/07 “im not necessarily against there being a minimum wage, but the way its done, is way too simplified and irrelevant to be of any use like sarge implied, 7.30 in miss is not the same as 7.30 in ny. plus, it has the potential for hurting the small businessman” 8:58:05 PM 7/30/07 “Yes. Everyone's so concerned about the small businessman. Like Wal-Mart.” 9:01:55 PM 7/30/07 “Stop shopping at Wal-Mart if you don't like it. I shop there at least once a week.” 3:28:24 AM 7/31/07 “yet another example of the federal government's over reaching abuse of the state's rights to self determination.” 3:38:37 AM 7/31/07 “Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo! The poor states! ![]() http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._state_minimum_wages” 4:05:48 AM 7/31/07 “Kansas, $2.65.” 4:19:59 AM 7/31/07 “violin - Those are "state" minimum wages. The Federal minimum, when higher, trumps those. Boo hoo hoo!” 4:31:30 AM 7/31/07 “HMM...I wonder how we need to decide the "value" of an employee...no really. Who determines the value of a job being performed. Why is it that a neurosurgeon gets paid a HECK of a lot more than a newspaper delivery person...I am thinking the former job requires extensive dedication and preparation plus it is MORE valuable. If you miss your paper..whooop tie doo...if you miss that needed repair in your brain......... So lets see if we allow the GOVERNMENT to decide wages...why not make it $25.00 per hour...? Becuase SOMEONE has to PAY it.” 5:37:59 AM 7/31/07 “if you miss that needed repair in your brain so THATS what happened to you. you were being worked on by a minimum wage doctor” 5:42:04 AM 7/31/07 “im gonna have to find that song by tmbg and play it now. it runs thru my head every time i see the thread title” 5:42:56 AM 7/31/07 “Half the low end wages, in this country, are underground economy anyway, so why get all riled about it when the missing Aruba blond girl is still at large.” 9:13:25 AM 7/31/07 “LOL...I am thinking in all the pieces she is in...she ain't that large.” 10:59:59 AM 7/31/07 “You know I had to go to the Airport this morning to take one of the kids to fly to see her grandmother. As I sat in the line to get a runny breakfast burrito, being served by a surly employee who apparently figures "smiling" is an option I have to pay extra for....I began ruminating... Why should I have to compensate someone who has done NOTHING to properly prepare for life? I mean what determines your WAGE? Imagine if we are on a hike. A group of say 10 of us have prepared for a long three or four day hike, we show up at the trailhead and gather I appropriatly planned gear, and we start off. About 3 miles into the hike we come on a GROSSLY obese man with a pack the size of a small pachyderm plodding along. He looks exhausted and we (as I would do) stop to ask if he is okay. He explains he decided he would like to do this trail, he wants to HIKE and CAMPOUT and experience the fun of the outdoors. We check the map (he by the way didn't bring a map so we offer to show him which trail leads to the camp) and note it is only four or five miles to camp. We put on our packs and start to get up. At that point a Park Ranger pops up and explains that they have a new "minimum hiking" law and informs us we have to help this man complete the hike. We then discover our new friend has a pack that weighs approximatly 65lbs. His sleeping bag is 7 lbs and unfortunatly not really rated for the temps we will be in. His tent...well it is a nice 16 lber that is too big to fit in the tiny camping areas on this trail. Now his cook gear consists of a Dutch oven, cast iron skillet and the normal kitchen supplies. The best part is he saved on weight by leaving out food, or any water. It is explained to us that since he is a citizen...or maybe not, we are required to help carry his load feed him our food..oh yeah and we have to give him shelter if he cannot find anywhere to put up his CONDO. Is this right? I mean we prepared, we planned, we suffered through countless nights of researching to find lightweight gear, food etc. So why do WE have to put out OUR time to help him simply becuase he WANTS to be there?” 4:25:29 AM 8/03/07 “That's a decent analogy XL. Nimblefoot, don't you think you're way out of line? XL, the only thing you left out is that the guy then decides to bring his kid along once the free handouts start, and the group as to support her too.” 4:46:14 AM 8/03/07 “We then discover our new friend has a pack that weighs approximatly 65lbs. XL400236 5:25:29 AM 8/03/07 That sounds like the backpacking we did when I was in boy scouts. When we were informed that we had to bring dutch ovens, I decided I was never going to backpack with the troop again.” 4:47:42 AM 8/03/07 “LOL...lumber...we had (I swear to God on this one) a Scoutmaster who was a 30 year Army retired Master Sgt. We were going to do a "Backpacking foods" display for a Scout Show....he looks around and says, " I will bring the dutch ovens." (LOL)....Sarge, Nimble is forgiven....I am betting he missed his St Johns Wart and Vitamin b shot this week.” 4:52:08 AM 8/03/07 “Did he bring the three large pots for washing dishes in?” 4:54:02 AM 8/03/07 “LOL....OH my...he made one of the groups carry the THREE plastic basins on one of our hikes(we were unloading the gear and I tossed them in the back of my truck). The best part was he pulls out a DOUBLE BURNER coleman stove (the WHITE fuel type) and looks at me and says...(Here you carry this I will need it).” 5:18:24 AM 8/03/07 “Plastic!? Lucky kids, we had to carry metal ones. This guy didn't come from NY by chance? He sounds like one of the Scoutmasters we had.” 5:28:49 AM 8/03/07 AW what the heck.... “Okay lumber...you have thrown down the gauntlet.... METAL...YOU HAD METAL????? as a kid we would have cried and thanked the GODS if we had just had METAL pots...why when I was a kid all out pots were made out of ROCK we had to carve with our teeth each campout.” 5:34:01 AM 8/03/07
