Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries runs a wilderness program for adjudicated youth. The program is scheduled for a full month of 24/7 contact with the clients in outback wilderness areas. A week or so is spent at the facility in Southern PA and then the group is taken out to a wilderness area for about 3 weeks or so.

That is all the information I really have. The HR phone number is 888-558-2559. The position website is:

http://www.diakon.org/EmploymentDetail.asp?ID=2213

This is not a walk in the park and adjudicated youth can be a real interesting group of people to work with.

I am unwilling to be away from my family for that long. But it might be a real opportunity for some to do what they love and make a difference at the same time.

While this agency is faith based, the employment is open to anyone. According to the laws governing adjudicated youth there is no requirement of Christian faith or practice.

Juvenile delinquents - (non-politically correct)

They are kids assigned to the programs by the courts

I'm Lutheran, I've never heard of it at my church. Do they have one out west? I'd love to get into something like that.

No idea Pam. Diakon is a regional agency to my knowledge but there are probably similar programs in other places under other agencies. As I said, I am unwilling to be away from my family like that so I have never investigated it.

They will sign people on for just one or two sessions. It is not a long term commitment. They have sessions all year round as well so winter backpacking can be part of the deal. I guess they use a lot of college kids during the summer.

Funny posting something like this on this forum, it not like anybody really cares for anybody, and if you really cared about these kids, you would'nt be asking folks here to help with them, as you can read we all are the wrong type to be helping people with a positive attitude. We all here just complain and want to gripe anyways.

I bet you anything there is a strong expectation - stated or unstated - to slip Jebus into the program, though.

i believe the fridge works for a similar program, though i don't think he is expected to slip jebus into anything.

not a job for me, but i give fridge all the props in the world for doing what he does.
