My son's dad and I lived in a pop up camper before "it" came along...it was pretty cool...that's the closest to an RV owner I've ever been...

I always did like the idea of a van or little bus you could live in and have seen some cool ones...however, I like to go exploring and I need clearance!
We do sleep in the back of the truck sometimes...

I had a nice van for traveling and fixed it up myself from what was a plain delivery van. It was a 1977 Chevy van and I carpeted the inside, put better seats in it, a bed, sink and icebox. It came out good and was great for car camping. The clearance wasn't bad either, but it didn't have 4 wheel drive so it could get stuck. I sold it to a kid on the other side of town when it had 156,000 miles on it. It still ran good and didn't burn any oil.

The other day I was tempted to trade my Wrangler for a VW camper van.

I figured it would be perfect for road trips.

I loved my old van and was sad to see it go. I bought newer van and still kept the old one for a year, but then didn't want to pay insurance on two vans anymore along with the other extra costs so I sold it.

couple of questions

I have back problems. What am I facing here as far as:

mileage to site
general mileage for the weekend
elevation

What you're facing
Drive to campsite, get out of car, drink a beer, set up camp, drink another beer, collect firewood, drink another beer, start fire, sit down in chair, drink another beer.

Tree you can drive to the campsite. The biggest problem for your back would be the bumpy road in. You can day hike from the campsite.

I'll lay you dollars to donuts if you show up, point to your back and say (ET voice) "Ouch" you won't even have to gather firewood. Not only that but they'll still let you enjoy the fire.

Of that, I have no doubt, Rev. This is a good bunch...

Unfortunately, it may come to that. I have 4 herniated disks that aren't going away so fast!

Hopefully ENS will get a permit for the fire this year...don't want to piss off the rangers again. How much was that fine?

Actually, truth be known, conk made it sound like more work than it is.

I would put it this way.

Show up, begin hitting the keg, get someone to feel sorry for you and put up your tent.

Masten Update
By buddy and I were up last weekend doing the OLP. There's a portipotty at the Masten site. Not sure if it'll still be there in Oct. Probably should check with the rangers when getting the permits. Also, a bear came thru at about 1PM and it was in no hurry to leave! The trail was cool, the lower 10 mile section was overgrown, we did it the hard way, up buttkicker hill,I did the 17 mile section in 1 day, all small streams were dry, Pleasant stream was very low, Rock run was good, Hopefully Jmitch will lead that bushwack up rock run!

This will be an off week for me so I may still be able to attend. I will probably bring my party tent to ensure maximum coziness.

When I was up there earlier in the year there was the standard run of the mill fiberglass "tardis" model port-a-pot. If you need a pic I am sure you find them on line. Wheather it will still be there at the end of Oct who knows.
Ramblinrev

They should leave it there. That spot needs a privy of some kind. I'm sure someone is camping there each weekend for most of the year.

I thought one you boneheads might want to see it. I'm not sure it was the "tardis" model(WTF?) I didn't stay in it any longer than necessary. My friend Bob thought it was the greatest thing.....

Tardis is the name of the British polic call box that Dr. Who travels around in.

From the out side it resembles a phone booth as much as anything else. The real Tardis is larger on the inside than it is on the outside. But unless one is an avid Dr. Who fan the reference is probably easy to miss.

There's nothing like poopin' in the woods.

Why you'd rather use a privy, is beyond me...

The amount of alcohol consumed at that location, demands a privy. Without it, we have People just #&%!$tin everywhere
