Got the permit for site C
AND the 2 page list of rules and regs too!
So I guess by now the rangers know to stop by that weekend and say Hi.
What's the deal with the campfire? Isn't there a large ring at site A?
Need special permission? What about charcoal or gas grills?

Special permission not necessary.. just a casual reminder that I am participating in the cook off and the nights do get pretty chilly.

not that i would ever attempt to bribe anyone with the warmth of a huge bonfire.

Papal dispensation can be made depending upon whether or not there has been suffcient rain/snow to reduce the fire danger level. That is not known until into the week before the event and _must_ be approved _in writing_ by the supervising ranger. I believe such dispensation is site specific so if "A" is approved for a fire it does not automatically hold the rest would be as well.

This policy is in force for all the State Forest regions. There is a Spring "no fire" time period as well but I don't remember the dates.

I got site "D" and I suppose site "E" is still up for grabs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe there is no charge.

No Fires??????

Last year I had capilene, shirt, fleece, MH Exposure and my down jacket on in front of the bonfire. call this FYAO South! LOL!

I think y'all need to migrate this yearly shindig south of the Mason Dixon Line.

:p

No fires because of all the dry leaves that have just fallen off the trees and this is usually the driest time of the year. If we get some good rain just before the trip we can call the forest office and ask for a fire permit. They made a point of telling me no fires after 10/1 when I called for the permit.

Bearmagnet I think we had snow flurries last year on Saterday night.

Charcoal I could probably do. I'll just need a good bit of charcoal on hand to put on the top and underneath. The oven has legs on it, so I should be good with just setting it on top of the coals.
