“NEVER and I mean NEVER wash old urethane coated ripstop nylon in the washing machine. It is not a pretty sight when the coating peels off and sticks to the walls of the tub. Hopefully it did not get into the pump drive and clog that up or my wife will have a frog fit.” 9:23:56 AM 7/27/07 “if you need a new one, look at the new style of front loaders. Barbie and I fought over who was taking care of the clothes washing duties for weeks after we bought one.” 9:34:36 AM 7/27/07 “UHOH......Your going to be sleeping in the backyard!!! Do nights in the dog house or on the couch count as a bag night?” 9:35:06 AM 7/27/07 “The pump is not clogged. I just ran a tub of plain water through and it worked fine. Now I just need to get the rest of the shreddies out so they don't show up on her unmentionables the next time she does laundry.” 9:38:13 AM 7/27/07 “Did the same thing twenty years ago, rev.” 9:39:24 AM 7/27/07 “Yeah, you don't want little white flakes to show up down there, might freak her out thinking that something is wrong! LOL.” 9:39:42 AM 7/27/07 “I second the front-loaders. They use less water, less energy, are easier to load/unload, and are quieter. Win-win-win.” 9:40:38 AM 7/27/07 “little white flakes... you must be joking. This is international orange. This tarp is at least twenty years old if its a day. The urethane had that distinctive sour puke oder to it. I thought I might be able to clean it up. Wrong answer.” 9:44:01 AM 7/27/07 “That urethane smell never goes away. Been there done that with the washing machine, by the way.” 9:53:34 AM 7/27/07 “one word: Laundromat” 10:05:18 AM 7/27/07 “Good call Roam. Ruin someone else's machine.” 10:07:48 AM 7/27/07 “I was thinking it was the white stuff. I guess little orange flakes might worry her even more?” 10:09:12 AM 7/27/07 “In this weeks news, there has been at apparent outbreak of psoriasis on customers at a Colorado Laundromat.” 10:09:28 AM 7/27/07 “lol” 10:13:46 AM 7/27/07 “LOL!!” 10:26:28 AM 7/27/07 “run some warm water in the tub. put a few TBS of clothes detergent in the water. slosh the item in the tub. drain, refill with water, rinse, then drain, refull, and rinse again. shake dry (outside) and let dry in the sun if possible... it's fast... or hang inside and air dry. that's how i do it.” 10:34:06 AM 7/27/07 “Ok... here is the offending tarp. Purchased from LL Bean who knows how long ago... easily 25 years. I am not even sure who purchased it. Now all you tarpers... Is this worth anything or should I just cut it up and use it for long load flags? I have no idea how to rig it. Any suggestions regarding retreatment it if it worth salvaging? 11:24:53 AM 7/27/07 “if nothing else, it could be used for car camping (gasp) trips as a sun shelter.” 11:27:55 AM 7/27/07 “LOL...Rev if I may, years ago I had a Jansport Trail Wedge from the 1970's. When we got it from my home it had apparently gone on a trip with my younger brother who stored it in the nice comfy basement IN THE BAG...for 3 years. The honey took it out and threw it in the washer and dryer (with the results you have mentiond). I was able to parly that into 5 now 6 tents, a couple of tarps and most recently A Tarp Tent.” 11:28:29 AM 7/27/07 “You can buy the recoat stuff for $5. Probably cheaper than a new tarp....” 12:36:53 PM 7/27/07 “LOL!! Ask Pixie about her "puke poncho" sometime. Lord, I think/hope she finally threw that thing away! ICK.” 12:44:03 PM 7/27/07 “not the Puke Poncho ---- I think it did actually pass. I seem to remember seeing a Eulogy for it posted somewhere. Actually, I'm still trying to come to terms with THAT Thread Title on THIS Website, LMAO A Word to WHOM?” 1:01:13 PM 7/27/07 “Yes, I got to experience the puke poncho first hand. It was disgusting!!” 1:02:17 PM 7/27/07 “I'll Take Your Word For It! LMAO” 1:08:42 PM 7/27/07 “ewwwwwww” 2:51:50 PM 7/27/07 “ENS's puke tent looked like it was possesed by a demon. Non-stop hysterical giggling and a face pressed up to the nylon. It reminded me of Freddy Kreuger. I've never been the same...” 3:12:31 PM 7/27/07 “the same as what.... dont answer that --- last edited: 7/27/07 3:26:10 PM” 3:25:10 PM 7/27/07 “Tilt has a point....you never really did establish a Baseline.” 5:38:02 PM 7/27/07 “How do you get a tarp to last for 25 years?” 6:25:40 PM 7/27/07 “don't use it?” 6:38:12 PM 7/27/07 “don't use it?” XL400236 9:38:12 PM 7/27/07 works every time..... I inherited this from my dad when he died a few years ago. But it does stink something awful. So does his tent. I can't see ever using it. But I can't bear to part with it if you know what I mean. The stench alone would keep me awake.” 6:46:03 PM 7/27/07 “I buy too much new gear. I tend to give my old gear away to friends and family.” 3:34:38 AM 7/28/07 “Your best bet is just to buy a new tarp. Recoating isn't worth the time and effort, not to mention the smell of some of the chemicals. The results aren't that great either, especially for a tarp that old. I used some recoat(k-kote recoat) on a tent fly once and it was a big waste of time. You cannot duplicate the coating that's put on at the factory when the fabric was made. last edited: 7/28/07 4:41:39 AM” 4:34:52 AM 7/28/07 “Don't throw your tent up if it is windy. It may blow away. Wounded Knee 1:47:20 PM” 1:21:10 PM 2/19/09 “If you don't eat your tent, you'll never throw it up.” 2:07:00 PM 2/19/09 “I buy too much new gear. I tend to give my old gear away to friends and family. bacpac dam, who knew?” 4:27:27 PM 2/19/09 “bacpac has friends? That, my folks, is either a fabrication or a true revelation.” 5:52:15 PM 2/19/09 “ Let's go to Pukenbarf Texas with Waylon and Willie and the boys.... ” 5:56:31 PM 2/19/09
