“My first car when I was 16 was a 1968 Ford Custom 500. She had 42,000 miles on it, and I bought it for $1200 in 1986. It only had an AM radio, but I didn't care. I had my own wheels and didn't have to ride the bus to school anymore. Then 6 weeks after I got it, I totaled it taking a 90-degree curve on a country road way too fast. My wheels hit the soft shoulder, and then the car flipped and landed upside down in the ditch. I don't knwo how, but my girlfriend and I were able to crawl out of the debris on our hands and knees with the only injuries being cuts on our hands from the broken glass. Ahh, stupid stupid girl I was.”

“My first car was an '84 Mercury Capri (the Mercury version of the Mustang) that I bought for $400. It had 46,000 on it, but I think the odometer had gone around once or twice. It had the same 4 cylinder engine as the Pinto. The car was the biggest POS and would break down at least once or twice a week. I was always going to switch the letters on the hood from CAPR (it was missing the I) to CRAP, but never got the chance. After having the car for less than 3 months I blew the head gasket between cylinders 1 & 2 and burned out the valves on cylinder #3. I ended up having to get a tow to the junkyard.”
