Lens Filters for LandscapesView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 10 of 10 messages posted.
“Is a polarized filter the best option for landscapes? I'm headed to Glacier next week and want some memorable pics.” 11:03:37 AM 8/06/07 “I'm assuming you're shootin' film? If so, then I would and i'd shoot with Velvia. 1-2 basic punch!” 11:06:19 AM 8/06/07 “One filter you should definetly have is a polarizer. There are a couple of other interesting filters (I love my redhancer), but the polarizer is a must.” 11:09:59 AM 8/06/07 “It will be digital. My lens will be a 17-40 f4L (77mm). I have the old Canon 10D (1.6 crop factor) and I also have the Canon Mark IIN (1.3 crop factor). I'm a sports hobbyist is the reason for the Mark IIN. The Mark IIN is a kinda an expensive piece of equipment to lug around and its nearly two pounds heavier. My old 10D is expendable.” 11:11:50 AM 8/06/07 “There are only two types of filters that I use consistently, besides a UV/Haze filter that remains on my lenses when I'm not using any other filters. They are first of all a good polarizer (circular type for auto-focus cameras), and secondly is an assortment of neutral density filters, both plain and graduated. I have a Tiffen enhancing filter, but really don't use it often as it alters the natural color balance of the image. It's great if there is no blue sky in my shot, but otherwise I try to avoid using it. Especially when using a DSLR (it throws off my white balance).” 11:13:50 AM 8/06/07 “I once borrowed a friend's infrared filter when shooting landscapes. The result was really cool. Here's a link to a set on Flickr where the photographer has exclusively used IR filters with her dSLR.” 12:14:31 PM 8/06/07 “I'm still using my old Canon 300D! When I can afford it, I'd like to get the 5D. I do own the 17-40 and I really love it! I don't even own any filters. I was going to buy a CP, but Windwalker talked me out of it. I don't own any GNDs either (maybe some day). For now I just expose two photos (or more) and blend them together in Photoshop.” 1:31:51 PM 8/06/07 “I rarely if ever use a polarizer, I own a good warming polarizer but just don't really see the need 98% of the time. I only use a polarizer when I want to see below the waters surface or to knock the "shine" off of wet foliage, rocks, etc. I have a 2 stop and 3 stop Singh-Ray GND that fit the Cokin "P" filter holder and I use those on every trip.” 2:49:51 PM 8/06/07 “WWUSAD?” 3:35:08 PM 8/06/07 “What?” 8:36:19 PM 8/06/07
