Does anyone here use this Kodak notso-easy share software? This is crap. If I had known they would totally take control of my pictures I would never have had them developed at Meijer. I'm so phukin pissed at this thing right now! First I spent an hour downloading their program just so I can e-mail my own freaking pics, now it doesn't like my e-mail addy, and I can't update it! AAARRRRRrrrRRRRggghhhhh!

Does anyone here know how to just get my pics off the disc in a jpeg file or something simple so I don't have to dick with their software?

If the files are saved in a normal image format any viewer should be able to read the file. You should then be able to save them to another location and treat them like a regular image file. I don't know the Kodak software but the Great Yellow Father has to do something to keep it's butt out of bankruptcy since film kind of went obsolete so they may have a proprietary compression format that only its stuff can read.

By the same token, it may just be a proprietary extension. if you rename the file extension some other viewer might be able to read it. There are only a few major compression extensions. Copy the disk onto the hard drive and rename the file from "gotyoubythegonads.kdk to letgomygonads.jpg. See if a viewer will open it. Try .gif or .tif or other popular compression formats extensions. That's the best I can suggest.

Actually open the disc instead of just clicking on the icon. Maybe it is a right clickinstead of a left. Find the data file and your pics should be in there.

If you have windows xp or above the there should be an auto start dialog that opens when you insert a cd. One of the options is to use Windows explorer to view the directories.

I have Kodak. I have a camera, then my mum-in-law got me a printer. That's my story. It has some great features if you have all the gear.

One of the draw backs is all photos will upload immediately into Kodak. I was annoyed at first.

However. The files are also located as jpegs on my laptop under My doc/shared doc/shared pics/kodak.

I take 'em from there directly to other programs.

Does that help?

That was part of my problem. I have 2000 pro, adn it started automaticaly, but I could only view the pics as a slide show without downloading kodak's software, then you register, but I can't figure out how to update my e-mail addy so I can e-mail the pics. I did manage to get them inot a jpeg on my desktop, but the files are not compressed, so they are so damn big that I can only e-mail one pic at a time.

Ooh thanks Bmag! I'll go try that.
Do you have to compress them after, or does it do that automaticaly?

meangreen the byte size is also dependent on the image size. You might want to resize the photos using an image processing program into an emailable size. You will lose resolution quality but you are losing that on the email display anyway.

I believe so. They move well to webshots and snapfish. Image shack too, but I re-size there, of course. I'm sure there's a way to compress them on the desktop but not sure how at this point

I use Paint Shop Pro 6 and there is a resize option that allows me to resize the image to any size I want and save it as a new file. So I actually have a large portrait quality image of my family, a couple of smaller size images and then an avatar size image for places where tiny pictures need to be posted.

for a home pc this may not be so bad, but I'm trying to do this at work. I will have to try to un-install the kodak crap later so I.S. doesn't raise hell with me too.

Picasa was the greatest with a pc. With a mac it will upload one photo at a time. The download beta version won't open my iphoto albums but will allow me to select all the pictures I've deleted.

what a waste of a morning.

I need a hike...

I use smugmug mostly bc that is what paige uses and she is smart about stuff like this. That is the extent of my technical analysis on this topic bro.

Picasa used to kick every other service. Easy and free. I was able to afford a mac when my last pc died the death of microsoft inefficiency and viruses. I knew I didn't want a vista machine. There's some advantage to a mac, but I haven't figured out anything other than it doesn't load up with viruses when my kids use it for facebook.

Not much of a story, Yogi. My hiking partner climbed like a baby, so it was mostly driving, car camping and drinking beer. And I was rappelling out of a tree at a local park to practice my belaying skills to prepare for this trip.
