Despite the bickering, this brings up a good point. We should all be aware of the possibility. I sat my pack down 2 weeks ago on a streem bank only to have it almost instantly swarmed by ground bees of some type. I was fortunate to have gotten away with only one sting on my forearm. It took a while but they eventually calmed down enough for me to get my gear back. Persistent little buggers though.

another couple of items to note about yellowjackets - they are more agressive in the fall and they will more likely attack dark colored clothing instead of light colored clothing
