Countrywide customers run to save deposits
After many depositors tried to withdraw money this week, bank assures customers that liquidity issues pose no risk to FDIC-insured deposits.
August 17 2007: 7:38 PM EDT

NEW YORK (Reuters) -- Withdrawal slips in hand, customers lined up at Countrywide Bank branches on Friday to take back their money, as parent Countrywide Financial Corp. tried to assure investors and depositors that it and its bank were stable.

Countrywide Bank issued a statement Friday that liquidity issues affecting its parent did not affect federally insured deposits at Countrywide Bank.

This country is walking on the edge of a deep economic precipice. The Federal Reserve is printing and pumping billions of dollars into the economy. What this will mean to Joe Sixpack is inflation, the hidden tax. People saving for their old age in 401K plans will arrive at their retirements with what they thought would be a substantial amount of money. It will be worth nearly nothing. A million in a 401K plan won't buy you much when the natural gas to heat your home costs $4000 a month or $100 worth of groceries cost $1000. The federal government plans on inflating themselves out of the debt they have run up. Owing 10 trillion dollars won't seem so bad when a loaf of bread costs you half-a-million dollars. Anyone who doesn't believe it can happen needs to google "Weimar Republic Germany".

Covering bank deposits when a bank run occurs is one thing but issuing fiat currency (not money) is another thing altogether. If the economy is not growing at the same rate the money supply is growing the end result is inflation. What is the GDP? Think it matches the 10-14 percent growth rate of the money supply this year?

Not This Best But Explains

The 'Fed 'caused it, do you think the same 'Fed' can fix it? The 'IRS' subsidy of mortgages has nothng to do with any of this, when the taxpayer's in the little numbers? No, it's all free market capitalism? Who made the money on the sales that led to this mess and why? Why does the price of the RE never get mentioned in the news coverage?

The oligarchs made the money. They're the ones who packaged these dangerous sub-prime mortgages into CDOs etc and sold them to pension funds and anyone else trying to milk some extra interest out of their investments. And Greenspan's Fed played right along, pumping freshly printed fiat currency into the housing market to keep the bubble afloat.

But the oligarchs, hedge fund managers, elite bankers, or international fananciers m at the this Ponzi Scheme won't get burned. The US citizen will. In bailout taxes and/or crippling inflation.

Hey salebored, do you read Richard "Mogambo Guru" Daughty? I get a kick outta him.

Hey I call them as I see them.

Damn XL you have got to be one of dumbest idiots to ever come to TT Fuego. Do you understand anything? My point is that the Fed IS BALING OUT as you said

the people who made the incredibly stupid decision to lend money to the people who could never pay it back and the idiots who took money on a debt they would never pay back

Why do you think the Fed is pumping so much cash into the economy? Man why don't you quit posting. Go over to the gear threads. Maybe you'll do better over there talking about TarpTents. There's a topic needing discussion.

We shall see SC.
I hope that it won't but I fear that it will. The FED has reached to end of its rope. If they lower the interest rates again no foreign governments will buy Treasury Bonds. And pumping freshly printed currency into a world flush with US dollars will not help cure the world of an economic system overrun with US dollars!
