PA Trip Report (w/ pics)

“Did a tough 4-5 mile hike this weekend on SGL 57, SGL means state game lands. I finally found a little known vista from Flat Rock and came across a big black snake. I watched a hawk fly around from the vista. It was a cloudy day, but nice to get out. I didn't want to backtrack, so I bushwhacked down a very steep, treacherous drainage that would have many cascades if it were running, but it's been dry. I then crossed the beautiful Mehoopany Creek and headed back to my car.

“I have a soft spot in my heart for black rat snakes. They are gorgeous critters and I would much rather have the snake than the critters the snake eats.”

“SGL 57 is my new favorite PA place. Awesome wilderness, natural spruce forests with flagged trees, rocky open balds of exposed bedrock, and some nice waterfalls and views. The terrain is challenging and you can go for miles without even crossing a dirt forest road.”
