Preacher is around, just not as much. couple years back we did a "meet preacher" hike on, and took him and his son on the PCT here in WA state. There was maybe 17 or 18 of us? We had a big picnic that we all packed in.

Some people that post in internet chat rooms tell lies and pretend their something they're not. I don't think that happens so much here. People here pretty much keep it real because if they're really backpackers, they will actually meet the TT'ers they're telling lies to. Then they'll be found out and it will be broadcast all over TT.

Dub-

That's not necessarily the case. I've hiked with plenty of folks from BP that don't post here.

preacher is not around as much as he used to be, but he's still lurking.

Everyone I've met on the net and hiked with have been good people, pretty much normal, except for the devil worshipper with aids - he was a nice guy though, had some good stories.

I'll have to see if I can dig that trip report up somewhere...

Please do! That was so damn funny. Even funnier when read side by side with Ohio Hiker's. (not that I'm taking joy in your misery though)

Not a horror story but funny!
It was the second Florida reunion hike and my first one. There were about 20 some hikers we all parked in the Ocala Nat. Forest parking lot and had gotten our gear together and introed ourselves and generally had a good time. We were all in a group hiking out past the ranger entrance shack when an older couple who were talking to the ranger asked who we were if we were a hiking club. I said "No, we all met on the internet." You should've seen the look that old couple and ranger gave usk! We were dying with laughter.

TT is not a club, more like a cult

I hiked w/ someone from the other side. She was nice. It was weird at one point b/c we had to meet at Dead Woman's Rock, or something like that. I felt guilty and hadn't even done anything. That's my horror story.

It was kind of gem to not ID who was involved in her one bad experience. Sorry again, gem!

Also, I have noticed that Hodge and the Snows have been avoiding me like the plague - I guess when you almost kill someone you're a little reluctant to hang out with them again....

i would never refuse to hike with someone based on some silly internet grudge. sometimes ppl who are complete douches are the most interesting and entertaining. if i was to ever decide not to hike with someone, it would be due to their behavior on the trail

I meet more bpker's this way than any other way. Bad experiences not really.

Yes -- ushering people to their next incarnation is sometimes seen as being bad form, LOL

I've been thinking of this as being more of a scrum  (too much time wasted on fuego threads, no doubt).

I'm scarred for life! It's "run for your livers," get it straight. ;-) So I was trying to remember, was that your first TT trip? Or did you meet the Skullmaster sometime?

Heh... the first TT hike I showed up on I met up with someone I had known about twelve years before when I lived in NY state. He doesn't post here, but someone who does invited him along. Talk about a small world.

Odd thing is that I have been on many trips where people talk about not ever hiking with a certain person again (anonymously) from that trip, but I never could figure out who they were talking about.

I have no recollection of Meghan and her bad ass friend. The bridal party rings a faint bell, though.

OOh.... I know who you mean now.

Never met her and her crew on the trail, but we did meet up with Milemonster and had a couple of beers a *while* back.

Then they fell off the planet!

(no, I do not have them buried in the backyard)

Yep, with TT it is not the unknown we must fear. It is what you do know about these folks that is scary.
