“Was out at a family campground, just getting ready to pop open my first Corona, when all of a sudden...BAMMMMM! Looked out, saw wood particles on the hood of my car, and as I walked closer towards it, noticed the nicely cracked windshield. Culprit? A nice water-logged dead limb from an over 100ft tall tree. A few dents in my hood, and a dent in the door frame. Insurance up to date, and getting new windshield in the morning. I was able to drive 80MPH on the freeway to get it home with no problems. Just wanted to share as a reminder that tree limbs still fall out there. So far this year, I have utilized home owners insurance, health insurance and now auto insurance...hopefully life is not next. last edited: 8/26/07 7:44:22 AM” 7:43:04 AM 8/26/07 “Also, right after it happened, of course it was very loud, so all of the hickabillies came strolling out and over. Everyone had a beer in their hands and they walked over and almost all at once said, when they saw it, "Holy Shyt! Was that a tree? They gotta cut that thing down!" Then they took a sip of their beers, and started to head back to wherever they came out of. I was cracking up! The rest of the weekend, I never saw one of them again!” 7:47:33 AM 8/26/07 “Teach ya to look for window makers over your tent, only. :p Sorry. Couldn't resist. That does suck. Often windshields are covered with no deductible involved, no?” 7:49:43 AM 8/26/07 “Nope. I gotta pay the deductible. 250 big ones. I have AAA, too.” 7:50:31 AM 8/26/07 “What's the cost if you don't claim it?” 7:58:25 AM 8/26/07 “I am not sure but I do need the frame and the hood repaired but am not going to be able to check into anything until tomorrow, Monday.” 8:03:46 AM 8/26/07 “That almost looks like a "head print" from a non-seatbelt-wearing doofus.” 8:42:53 AM 8/26/07 “Yeah, now we know what happened to Marko's head!” 8:57:03 AM 8/26/07 “Yikes -- Glad it wasn't your noggin. It's amazing how much damage a relatively small tree limb can do. Â A hundred-foot fall would give it some time to accelerate, I suppose.” 9:06:48 AM 8/26/07 “Yup, I learnt my leason Spam! Actually, I caught a widow-maker squarely on top of my head about 1990 one of the few times that I was felling trees in Vermont without my helmet. I dropped a red maple that was right close to a white pine shortly after some very windy weather. That sucker was about 15 feet long and 3-4 inches at the trunk.........very typical scenario......just waiting for some dummy to knock down the maple.” 9:19:06 AM 8/26/07 “I've got my mental picture and now you've made my day! LOL!” 9:21:11 AM 8/26/07 “Yeah, don't hit me in the head. It won't do any good.” 9:29:08 AM 8/26/07 “I was gonna put red dyed facric in center of smash up, wrap car with toilet paper bandage, and stick a pink tongue out of the hood but didn't have any red dye!” 9:29:26 AM 8/26/07 “well Darn! Â Â LOL” 9:47:13 AM 8/26/07 “I never do anything with out my helmet” 9:51:11 AM 8/26/07 “Yup, I forget the helmet one time and...................WHAM!!!!” 10:12:42 AM 8/26/07 “HMMMmmm...seems you should not have paid deducible. I have never paid any for the 5 windshields taken out by rocks flying off the tires of trucks. I would think this would fit the same category.” 3:58:02 PM 8/26/07 bummer! “Oh man! At least try and get in with one of the glass shops that pays your deductible! Birch had the same thing happen to his jeep last spring. Right in front of our house (dang cottonwoods).” 5:20:47 AM 8/27/07 “marko..."the spider web" you describe is normally from the inside OUT and near the Rearview Mirror.... Wolf man that is tough I felt really lucky a few years ago when HUGO hit Charleston three HUGE oaks dropped in my mother in law's front yard and the fell perfectly between all the cars. I usually try to look for widowmakers too...but MAN you ever tried to do that in a big forest...heck half the trees have em somewhere.” 5:27:46 AM 8/27/07 “Wolfeyes is a WOman.” 5:45:32 AM 8/27/07 “"marko..."the spider web" you describe is normally from the inside OUT and near the Rearview Mirror...." No schit, Sherlock. Like I said, "....it almost looks like..." ....and sometimes there is one for each front seat occupant......two dummies. One lump or two? Hey-hey, Sass! last edited: 8/27/07 5:49:51 AM” 5:48:51 AM 8/27/07 “OOPS I am sorry Sass didn't see you were reading....should have included "DISCLAIMER" The term "man" is a generic term intended to show sympathy. By its very nature it does not intend to identify sex, or gender preferences. Its inclusion is purely designed to indicate sympathy and is not included to demean or degrade anyone not acquainted with a term that only recently was added to the lexicon (by recently we mean 1960's or so).” 6:04:11 AM 8/27/07 “when they saw it, "Holy Shyt! Was that a tree? There's your sign....” 6:41:40 AM 8/27/07 “LOL @ Songbyrd! Just took it to body shop to have all repairs done, and for the next few days, I am driving a 2007 Toyota RAV4. They can take their time!” 6:50:51 AM 8/27/07 “LOL song...i thought the same thing.. We were collecting for MDA the other day (hot sun, fire truck with (JERRY'S KIDS SIGN) we are holding boots with "FILL THE BOOT FOR MDA "on them and this little Artsy guy (Tilt?) walks up and says "Ya'll collecting money?" (LOL)...” 7:18:00 AM 8/27/07 “Wolfie attracts wood. ;-)” 8:50:56 AM 8/27/07 “Maybe he wasn't sure if you wanted the boot filled with piss, XLOL.” 10:03:33 AM 8/27/07 “$1400.00 in damage. From one tree limb. LOL!” 10:17:08 AM 8/27/07 “LOL?? More like OUCH!! last edited: 8/27/07 10:28:00 AM” 10:27:43 AM 8/27/07 “LOL..File on the Earth Firsters for not allowing trees to be thinned....(LOL)” 11:24:20 AM 8/27/07 “little Artsy guy (Tilt?) He just looks like an old Georgia redneck to me.” 11:32:52 AM 8/27/07 “Yeah....well you might have a skewed reference group.” 12:09:28 PM 8/27/07
