My Poor Car

Was out at a family campground, just getting ready to pop open my first Corona, when all of a sudden...BAMMMMM! Looked out, saw wood particles on the hood of my car, and as I walked closer towards it, noticed the nicely cracked windshield. Culprit? A nice water-logged dead limb from an over 100ft tall tree. A few dents in my hood, and a dent in the door frame. Insurance up to date, and getting new windshield in the morning. I was able to drive 80MPH on the freeway to get it home with no problems.

Just wanted to share as a reminder that tree limbs still fall out there.

So far this year, I have utilized home owners insurance, health insurance and now auto insurance...hopefully life is not next.

Also, right after it happened, of course it was very loud, so all of the hickabillies came strolling out and over. Everyone had a beer in their hands and they walked over and almost all at once said, when they saw it, "Holy Shyt! Was that a tree? They gotta cut that thing down!" Then they took a sip of their beers, and started to head back to wherever they came out of. I was cracking up! The rest of the weekend, I never saw one of them again!

Teach ya to look for window makers over your tent, only. :p

Sorry. Couldn't resist. That does suck. Often windshields are covered with no deductible involved, no?

Nope. I gotta pay the deductible. 250 big ones. I have AAA, too.

I am not sure but I do need the frame and the hood repaired but am not going to be able to check into anything until tomorrow, Monday.

That almost looks like a "head print" from a non-seatbelt-wearing doofus.

Yikes -- Glad it wasn't your noggin.

It's amazing how much damage a relatively small tree limb can do.  A hundred-foot fall would give it some time to accelerate, I suppose.

Yup, I learnt my leason Spam!

Actually, I caught a widow-maker squarely on top of my head about 1990 one of the few times that I was felling trees in Vermont without my helmet.

I dropped a red maple that was right close to a white pine shortly after some very windy weather.

That sucker was about 15 feet long and 3-4 inches at the trunk.........very typical scenario......just waiting for some dummy to knock down the maple.

I was gonna put red dyed facric in center of smash up, wrap car with toilet paper bandage, and stick a pink tongue out of the hood but didn't have any red dye!

HMMMmmm...seems you should not have paid deducible. I have never paid any for the 5 windshields taken out by rocks flying off the tires of trucks. I would think this would fit the same category.

Oh man! At least try and get in with one of the glass shops that pays your deductible!

Birch had the same thing happen to his jeep last spring. Right in front of our house (dang cottonwoods).

marko..."the spider web" you describe is normally from the inside OUT and near the Rearview Mirror....

Wolf man that is tough I felt really lucky a few years ago when HUGO hit Charleston three HUGE oaks dropped in my mother in law's front yard and the fell perfectly between all the cars.

I usually try to look for widowmakers too...but MAN you ever tried to do that in a big forest...heck half the trees have em somewhere.

OOPS I am sorry Sass didn't see you were reading....should have included

"DISCLAIMER" The term "man" is a generic term intended to show sympathy. By its very nature it does not intend to identify sex, or gender preferences. Its inclusion is purely designed to indicate sympathy and is not included to demean or degrade anyone not acquainted with a term that only recently was added to the lexicon (by recently we mean 1960's or so).
