Hammock and CrazyCreek Bivy?

Rather than take a tent, and sleeping bag -- would you (could you, should you) bring a hammock and a CrazyCreek chair and use it to make a bivy?

Why? What if you were bushwhacking and weight would be considered more so than normal?

I'm thinking a space blanket for comfort? Use the CrazyCreek as a main rafter, and sleep with your head on the seat cushion? (Carry your normal tent footprint of course.)

No sleeping bag to get wet. No lost cubics due to conventional sleeping bag tent combination.

Stupid idea? or along the lines of something Ray Jardin (sp?) would try.

bivy
intresting idea......i use a waterproofed hammock for a ground cloth and a crazy creek for a sleepin pad...no tent...but a lite tarp....and either a fleece bag, or my north face bag...depends on the weather...also i take the straps for the hammock....never know might find a perfect place...as for a bivy....only one ive used is whats issued to uncle sam, and it works great...weather or not

well i was looking at total cubes and lbs/ozs.. and thinking thru it. it would be pretty comfortable sleeping if the weather cooperated.

backpackerbrian. its early and my typing will be slow.

"When life gets tough and is beating you down, You gotta ruck up, grit your teeth, and shoot the bastard between the eyes!"

heh.. interesting. anyway.. my hammock is a Henn actually. always had some trouble with it, not over performance, but my inability of doing a good job to hang my hammock.

to be honest I ended up letting some friend (fellow backpacker) helping it get it right. I'm right at the weight limit. (266lbs - yes prosecutor in case you are lurking.)

but i like the integrated skito netting, and thinking it would make a good one person sleep in the woods. it's light, small.. and a REALLY nice sleep if I get lucky enuff to find something strong enuff to hang it.

LOLz. tent stake the top of it, or find one tree.. and suspend it over a rock.

anyways. good morning north carolina.

I meant I don't get what you're trying to do with it. Are you going to sleep in your hammock on the ground?

Stake the Head end and the two side tieouts...Raise the foot end to expose the slit opening just about 2 feet and tie it off. Use the hammock tarp as a...well...tarp.

Use the crazy Creek unfolded flat as a sleeping pad with the tent footprint (I'd personally use a silnylon poncho) ground cloth.

reverse head and foot when using on the ground, place your head just left of the opening...

Biggest problem I've faced doing this is I HATE end opening tents....I like WIDE side doors!

Ok, I actually had to do this once before. My trekking poles guyed out worked great. I think it actually shows the setup on the Hennessy website.

yeah.. but I most likely won't bring trekking poles to a bushwhack.

You can use sticks instead. Should be able to find those pretty easy.

I've just used the hammock as a bivy with my hiking poles to stretch things out and keep things comfortable (i.e. keeping the netting off my face and the whole thing from being too compressed. Sgt. Rock describes a more elegant way of doing this than I managed.
