A Good Read

Hurricane recovery is class war by other means. And in this war of the powerful against the powerless, Mr. Bush can rightly land his fighter plane in Louisiana and declare that, unlike the war in Iraq, it is, indeed, “Mission Accomplished.”

From the above link, thanks.

Amazing..... Obama somehow resists the urge to appoint a Horse Guy to run FEMA:

Obama picks Florida's Fugate to head FEMA
by EILEEN SULLIVAN and BRENT KALLESTAD
Associated Press Writers

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama on Wednesday tapped Florida emergency manager Craig Fugate to head the Federal Emergency Management Agency, turning to a Republican appointee who has steered the Southern state through numerous hurricanes since 2001.

In a statement issued by the White House, Obama said he plans to nominate Fugate who will help the administration "improve our preparedness, response and recovery efforts."

Obama said Fugate will travel with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to the Gulf Coast on Thursday to meet with local officials still struggling to recover from 2005 hurricanes.

Fugate, who faces Senate confirmation once he is nominated, has been director of Florida's Division of Emergency Management since 2001, chosen by former Gov. Jeb Bush. He was retained by current Gov. Charlie Crist. Both governors are Republicans.

Before that, Fugate was the agency's assistant director for more than four years.

...there are still GOOD hard working folks on the coast who are still in need after Katrina.
http://news.webshots.com/photo/1439601814030993972YpbPsF
like the family of my boss...they had nothing after Katrina....nothing...
...I know there are those who don't really need the help & recieved it....but I blame that on FEMA & Red Cross for not looking into it better...( like passing out debit cards in areas where they still had no power...& what the needed was food, water & shelter)
...I don't know what the coast would have done if not for all the church groups who came to the rescue....
...my boss said that FEMA did not show up for 4 days...everything was gone...no food.. no water.. no shelter...the trees were stripped of their leaves, so no shade...it was in the high 90's everyday....she said the first ones on the scene were from Canada...yes...CANADA....( I guess everyone was too damn busy in New Orleans....)

What was the report last week...

Something like 17,000 still living in hotels and motels...another 8000 in free trailers..SORRY its been enough time.

I remember when we got 74 families in Augusta. There were a few who were greatful. Then we got a large number who DEMANDED to be "given a new house". LOL one lady went on a drive of the area, found a house for sale in the HILL region (starting around 300K and demanded we give it to her cause her "place be destroyed by Bush"...LOL

I agree DIV, FEMA and just about any government agency is the WORST way to do something...why in the HELL would anyone want them running health care?

As for the Katrina Parasites...um I am directing my comments for the pure parasites. If the people are really hard working and dedicated they are out of the free housing by now.

They are not scum....They are lazy and demand free money from you and me.

Look I worked with a family, who came from the 9th ward. They came in demanding free housing. We ended up finding a church to help with rent and power downpayments. The family went out and bought a new car.
After 2 years the mother was finally removed (after they burned two apartments by "mistakes") when she made the mistake of forgetting what churches she had been to to beg for ONE TIME ASSISTANCE.....

WOW..WK that actually is HOW FEMA is supposed to work.

If you study the NIMS program...you see that the Government is not supposed to be there to save the day. But rather support local and state efforts.

LOL my boss laughs at the number of high ranking officials who have found "money" for private assistance incase of a disaster. If they know the capability of their agencies to solve a disaster and rescue people and THEY are looking a private contractors...Imagine how great the government will do?

OH MAN THIS IS GOOD>>>>

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/6578533.html

Three Hurricane Katrina evacuees who found homes in Houston thanks to Oprah Winfrey's charitable foundation are accused of bilking the government of tens of thousands of dollars in housing assistance.

Federal agents arrested the women Wednesday morning at their homes on Angel Lane, to the surprise of neighbors who have struggled to build a thriving community in their southwest Houston subdivision. They plan to arrest the sister of one of the women today on similar charges.

It was a shock to everyone on the block, said 18-year-old Julie Paxton, who said one of the women was a nurse and another was a probation officer. We didn't know people like that would do something like this.

Darlene Poole, 30, and her sister Lashona Victor, 37, who lives in Louisiana, are charged with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud for allegedly filing for rental assistance from FEMA after Poole bought a Habitat for Humanity home on Angel Lane three years ago. According to the federal indictment, Victor registered with FEMA as Poole's landlord and the two submitted false lease agreements and rent receipts that prompted FEMA to pay them more than $14,000. Poole also told FEMA she was unemployed, although she was actually working for Harris County's Community Supervision and Corrections Department, the indictment alleges. If convicted, each sister could face up to 20 years in prison.
