Smokygirl's AT thruhikeView Messages“She stopped at a Cagle Farms turkey house up near Blairsville. She did some plucking and gutting for some cash money so's to afford to continue on the Springy. last edited: 11/25/07 5:18:36 AM” 5:16:58 AM 11/25/07 “blairsville? shes practically there then. how long ago was that?” 5:21:34 AM 11/25/07 “Gojo - were you on the trail and did I pass you? It was a blast reading this thread - sorry I haven't posted. HOI - that was so awesome and the water was much needed! This drought is terrible on all the sources. Good griefies. I am in Georgy. A week to go, and the journey has been incredible. Spam - I read your message at Mountain Harbour and was so excited to happen upon it leafing through the register. We had the wood stove crankin' in there. The Roans was cold, but sunny. Roan High Knob frosted over when we came through. I forget Blairsville? I do remember turkeys faintly...” 9:08:40 AM 12/09/07 “Hi Smokygirl...{HUGS}...good to hear from you.” 9:17:16 AM 12/09/07 “Stew/MDS! It was good seeing you up there when it was warmer. Feels like another world thinking back, down here. Hug!” 9:18:57 AM 12/09/07 “Woooo Hoooo! Coming down the Home Stretch! < GRIN > Yeah, that drought.... Here in Augusta we're just waiting for the folks in Atlanta to run a pipeline to the east and tap into our supply!” 9:19:04 AM 12/09/07 “Weeeeeeeeeee! It's been a wild ride!! Yeah! Not much rain this whole trip, but with that comes not much water so lesson learned. Don't curse the rain when you are hiking, or you will be licking chapped lips and wanderin' the mountains delirously dehydrated.” 9:21:26 AM 12/09/07 “For Sure! I thought I was really slick one time.... I couldn't find the water source and I was getting a little low. Then that evening the sky opened up and I collected a couple of quarts as it ran off my tarp. But then about halfway through my cup of chocolate-coffee I thought "Geeee, I hope this water didn't drip off of any poison ivy on the way down!!"” 9:31:48 AM 12/09/07 “Way to go, SmokyGirl! You should have hollered on your way through Pennsylvania/Maryland and we could have met you for a Gathering Of The Boneheads Party. Oh well...........next time!” 10:02:11 AM 12/09/07 “Do glad to hear from you... You Go Girl!!” 10:52:02 AM 12/09/07 “You're so beautiful I dream of you every night.” 7:04:44 PM 12/09/07 “You go girl.Drop me an e-mail when you get finished and god be with you” 7:56:08 PM 12/09/07 “wow. save it for the private chats, paul” 4:26:02 AM 12/10/07 “crash bang - At my age it's too late for any savings. Also, I only discuss privates with my doctor. last edited: 12/10/07 5:17:17 AM” 5:15:34 AM 12/10/07 “Good to hear from you and to hear you're so close to finishing. Very impressive!” 12:41:51 PM 12/20/07 “You're sure you don't want to head back North in a couple of weeks?” 3:01:08 PM 12/20/07 “Congrats and thanks for posting. You write very well and I will be reading more than just your 12/6 and 12/19 entries as time allows. I met Boo-Boo near Bluff Mt in early November. She was the only SOBO I met on my hike from Max Patch to Allen Gap. I just got a card from her today with a picture of her on Big K and Springer.” 4:07:22 PM 12/20/07 “Congratulations! How do you feel about it all now?” 4:48:34 PM 12/20/07 “paradigm shift???” 4:50:25 PM 12/20/07 “Rock on girlfriend and have a very Merry Christmas! I hope to meet you some day.” 8:01:56 AM 12/21/07 “Thanks y'all! Definitely a paradigm shift. I have the nomad blues, but tryin' to rise above. Linville, linville, linville! Will try to make it! Don't know about Ruck?” 8:09:23 AM 12/21/07 “The rucks are an informal weekend-long gathering of long distance hikers - not as much of a schedule as the ALDHA Gatherings but much the same cast of characters (e.g. mostly past and future thruhikers or section hikers). We talk, hike a bit, eat a lot (pot luck meals), watch some slide shows, etc. Usually around 100 people show up. One is in PA at the end of January, one at Wesser MLK weekend, one in Colorado in February. http://www.whiteblaze.net/paruck/ www.whiteblaze.net/soruck” 9:58:41 AM 12/21/07
