Steve has gone missing “the mulit millionare whos famous for being the first to balloon around the world has gone missing.....lets pray for his safe return” 4:58:16 PM 9/04/07 “What was he trying to do? I haven't heard anything about this.” 5:19:50 PM 9/04/07 “He left Monday morning in a private plane from a private airport in Nevada. No flight plan was filed. He expected to return by noon on Monday. Fuel was full. No contact with an emergency beacon and no radio contact. CAP is working with Naval and Air Force personnel to try and locate him. Supposed he was looking for dry lake beds.” 5:29:12 PM 9/04/07 “do a search on yahoo news for some more info” 5:32:47 PM 9/04/07 “Why should I? When I clicked on your thread, I was hoping you would explain it. Usually that's what threads of this ilk do. And not only that if I post a thread like this I link to the story.” 6:24:27 PM 9/04/07 “Someone needs to go on YAHOO maps and search for "Fosset Crash Site" then go to the place with the flag. (LOL)....hope for the best and pray for his return” 6:31:17 PM 9/04/07 “sorry, tango, i wasnt meaning to be critical....my apologies....i was just trying to let everyone know where to get some more info....i tired to link...but for some reason it wouldnt work....again my apologies” 6:35:54 PM 9/04/07 “http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/04/fossett.missing/index.html There's a link. To my knowledge they have not yet confirmed a crash. Confirmed as in no wreckage has been found or crash site identified. At least it is not part of the newscasts I have read.” 6:36:27 PM 9/04/07 “http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geu7G0Ct5G7VwBWgtXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTB0ZXQ0Mjg1BHNlYwNzYwRjb2xvA2FjMgR2dGlkA0Y5OTRfMTc3/SIG=12k7scjfa/EXP=1189043252/**http%3a//news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070905/ap_on_re_us/steve_fossett_23 maybe this will work last edited: 9/04/07 6:38:34 PM” 6:37:14 PM 9/04/07 “maybe not...ok...maybe it is....btw....thanks rev...i appreciate it last edited: 9/04/07 6:39:52 PM” 6:38:08 PM 9/04/07 “No prob BPB. Kinda having a hangover from a bad day yesterday. Just read what I wrote kinda sounded mean. My apologies. They had to stop the search due to high winds.” 8:05:35 PM 9/04/07 “ A ship above the desert, just a speck against the sky, Steve Fossett flying that sad day; With his trusty locator beacon, on the second of September His plane fell in the desert, far away. There's a beautiful, beautiful field Far away in a land that is fair. Happy landings to you, Stephen Fossett Farewell, first gentleman of the air. (apologies to Red River Dave McEnery) ” 5:51:24 AM 9/05/07 “From what I've read it is a little early for eulogies. Unless CNN.com is slow to pick up the news.” 5:54:43 AM 9/05/07 “Sorry --- I just had an attack of Folk Music. last edited: 9/05/07 6:56:57 AM” 6:56:29 AM 9/05/07 “Any updates today? This kinda like a modern day ...Oh Shoot...what was her name...the woman pilot that disappeared?” 7:19:10 AM 9/05/07 “YAz --- that was a variation on "Amelia Earhart's Last Flight".” 7:21:20 AM 9/05/07 “YEA...her!” 7:21:50 AM 9/05/07 “Helicopters and planes from Naval Air Station Fallon, in Fallon, Nevada, the Nevada Air National Guard and the California Highway Patrol are helping in the search. They ought to make him/his estate pay their expenses.” 8:23:03 AM 9/05/07 “Remember John Denver's last song? "I'm leaving in a kit plane, don't think I'll come back again.' There was another that had something about "Clipping through the High lines, plowin through the sea..."” 9:14:25 AM 9/05/07 “Branson said on Wednesday he was hoping to trace Fossett through a satellite mapping service offered by Internet data provider Google. Even if the plane locator failed, Fossett usually wears a Breitling Emergency watch that allows pilots to easily signal their location, said Granger Whitelaw, co-founder of the Rocket Racing League. “They’re registered to us personally, so they know it’s you,” he said by phone Wednesday from New York. There had been no word of such a signal by Wednesday. Rescuers in Nevada had higher hopes of finding something because there was little wind to interfere with their aerial search efforts, unlike Tuesday, said Gary Derks, operations officer for the Nevada Division of Emergency Management. The aerial search Tuesday included 14 aircraft conducting grid searches over 7,500 square miles — an area larger than Connecticut. The search on Wednesday was intended to concentrate on 600 square miles.” 12:08:28 PM 9/05/07 “Statements are starting to be made about the possibility of Fossett being injured. Niether the emergency locater beacon on the plane, nor his wrist watch locater signal seems to be activated. Branson has suggested this may indicate an injury occurred particularly since the wrist watch would need to be manually activated. http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/05/fossett.missing/index.html” 1:56:35 PM 9/05/07 tango “i was suffering from the same problem....lol....mine was elijah craig induced....yours?” 5:56:31 PM 9/05/07 “2 lying campers to whom I had to give a refund. Then some parts went missing then a pitch fork seems to have disappeared. Nothing seemed to be going right so I retreated to my house to hide my head before it blew up! Who's Elijah Craig? The winds were really bad here today, I think we're getting some cast off from the hurricane. I wonder if some of those winds made it up there too. last edited: 9/05/07 7:39:16 PM” 7:37:52 PM 9/05/07 “http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/06/fossett.missing/index.html Search area has been expanded to 10,000 square miles. There have been a couple of false locater signals chased down and ruled out. Wreckage was found but determined by ground inspection to be an older unmapped crash site. Still no sign of Fossett or the plane.” 11:26:27 AM 9/06/07 “Aliens?” 11:27:32 AM 9/06/07 “"Where ever there is a Mexican, there is Mexico" President of Mexico 2007” 12:55:12 PM 9/06/07 “Hopefully I don't offend anyone by saying this...but do any of you believe this is a farce. Disappear for awhile, then re-surface months from now?” 1:00:35 PM 9/06/07 “Like Elvis? (LOL)” 1:08:42 PM 9/06/07 “When I was working in the theater we were all set for a photo shoot with the cast. I had to be there to run the scenery changes for the show. The photographer never showed up. This was a professional photographer the theater had used for years. Waited and waited, he never showed. No one could find him. His studio hadn't heard from him. He just up and disappeared as far as anyone could tell. A year later or so he shows up to apologize for missing the shoot. He had decided to take a trip to Tahiti the night before. Seems his mind wasn't fully engaged in his life at the time. So it does happen. But I would think Fossett would have too many options to disappear. He wouldn't need to abscond with someone else's plane. The plane is registered to the Flying M Ranch where he took off from. His own plane.... maybe I could see that. I get the impression he has too much integrity to steal another plane just to disappear.” 1:11:43 PM 9/06/07 elijah craig “12yr old kentucky straight burbon whiskey.....good stuff...but that was preceeded by a contractor deciding to try to place 20 courses of block and pour the grout for it all in one day....” 5:45:37 PM 9/06/07 “Ahhhh, got ya!” 6:52:32 PM 9/06/07 “Wounded Knee, I thought the exact same thing. When I heard the news my first thought was, "Amelia Erhart." My next thought was that of all the people in the world who would have the means to purposefully disappear without a trace for whatever reason, it would be Steve Fossett. I wonder what wass going on in his personal life in the past few months. Since he is from the Chicago, his disappearance is quite a big news item around here it seems.” 6:57:04 AM 9/07/07 “maybe hes found himself a little cookie in the country...and hes gone to go visit her, probably not” 6:05:49 PM 9/08/07 “Space Aliens....” 9:19:25 PM 9/08/07 “He's in the Area51Bar and Grilled.” 11:01:01 PM 9/08/07 ““Aliens?” MarkO 12:27:32 PM 9/06/07 No Duh!?!?” 9:17:44 AM 9/09/07 “Has this guy been found yet.” 10:12:51 AM 3/21/08 “He's been declared dead, I believe.” 10:16:10 AM 3/21/08 “Jimmy Hoffa picked him up on his way to jam with Hendrix.” 10:20:04 AM 3/21/08 “Some hiker will probably find him mummified in the wreckage in 10-15 years. I don't think NASA ever found the crash site of the Mars Climate Orbiter. I remember there was like a 10 megabyte TIFF of the most likely area you could download and try to help locate it ----- lotsa rocks!” 10:28:52 AM 3/21/08 “Yeah. He's somewhere in the Sierra. I am sure some hiker/rock climber/moutaineer type will come across the wreckage in the not too distant future.” 10:48:37 AM 3/21/08 “Finding him may be worth some bucks.” 10:49:50 AM 3/21/08 “You're all assuming he's still in the same dimension.” 10:50:34 AM 3/21/08 “Hope they find him soon for the benefit of his family, he's been declared legally dead but it's probably hard to accept that if you're a family member when they haven't found your body! It surprises me sometimes to read these things, but this year they found another airplane from the WW II era in the Sierra... there's lot's of remote areas up there that we (we = hikers / backpackers) just don't get to! (that's one of the reasons why I LOVE the Sierra!) last edited: 3/21/08 10:48:29 AM” 10:53:48 AM 3/21/08 “Memorial scheduled Thursday for missing adventurer Steve Fossett Posted: March 20, 2008 11:08 AM EDT Updated: March 20, 2008 06:08 PM EDT The Vail Daily newspaper says Steve Fossett's family will have a memorial service to honor the missing adventurer on Thursday. Fossett was last seen on Sept. 3 when his single-engine plane took off from an airstrip near Yerington. Search crews covered more than 20,000 square miles but never found him. A judge declared Fossett dead in February. Thursday's service is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, CO. Fossett and his wife Peggy lived in Beaver Creek part time. The 63-year old Fossett was know for his dangerous adventures. He had circled the world in a balloon, plane and sailboat. He swam the English Channel and competed in the Iditarod Sled Dog Race.” 10:55:30 AM 3/21/08 “I have not seen this, but the link is a video celebrating the 100 years of Boy Scouting in America. Supposedly, there is a vignette with Steve Fossett, who was very involved in the Boy Scouts. Thought you might be interested. http://ww2.scouting.org/100years/100years/content/100thYearAnniversaryVideo.aspx” 11:06:26 AM 3/21/08 “Hope they find him soon for the benefit of his family, he's been declared legally dead but it's probably hard to accept that if you're a family member when they haven't found your body! His wife petitioned to have him declared legally dead.” 11:20:45 AM 3/21/08 “Very Cool Thanks.” 11:22:36 AM 3/21/08 “His wife petitioned to have him declared legally dead. twigeater Unfortunately I think that someone has to be declared legally dead before all the insurance-related issues can be addressed, which is I'm guessing why she did that! :( It still helps to deal with things emotionallly when you know FOR SURE that someone has passed because they found your body... I guess that's what I was thinking when I posted my comment about hoping they found him!” 1:35:45 PM 3/21/08
