Hey anybody going to be around Baxter on the first of October? I need a ride back to Monson and don't want to pay $100 for it if I don't have to.

Just thought I would put this out there..

Pay my travel and expenses and I can be there. Shouldn't come to more than $250. >:?)

Thanks Rev, you should drive up to see the leaves changing colors.

Wish I could be up there then. I've been wanting to go back to Baxter ever sense getting home from Twigeater's trip a few years ago.

I'd love to be able to commit and say yes, but I can't say yet, and it's still a good 3.5 hours from here.

Just stick your thumb out. Someone will give you a ride. It's Maine.

ummm.... That's part of what makes the hitchhiking idea somewhat scary. It's Maine. I lived in Maine. It's ummm.... different.

the 1st is a monday! - damn, that counts me out.

I have learned that there are some interesting people out walking the roads of Northern Maine at sunrise. It's the long long beards that get me.

twigeater... I never said different was bad. All I said was hitchhiking the central north area of Maine has a hint of the unknown about it. Course... I'd rather face the unknown of central northern Maine than the known of some other areas where I have hitched in the past.

ps I thought "The Beans of Egypt, Maine" did a bang up job of capturing the difference.

exactly...

I worked with a woman who moved here from California (via Mexico) and she said when she first came here, she was scared when she saw people walking down the road with guns...

You know, Maine isn't all that different from my part of NY, except the people talk funny.

It was the ones without guns that bothered me. What in the world were they doing out.
