“Looking for a family tent. Something about the size of a small house. What do you recomend?” 1:17:02 PM 9/11/07 “SD's Toareg.” 1:30:06 PM 9/11/07 “Small house” 1:44:22 PM 9/11/07 “How much you willing to spend? You want this to be a name brand? Maxium of peeps sleeping/orgy?” 1:44:24 PM 9/11/07 “http://www.rei.com/product/712563 REI - sleeps 6 http://www.rei.com/product/732599 North Face - sleeps 8 http://www.rei.com/product/718470 Sierra Designs - sleeps 6 http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=26869513&memberId=12500226 Eureka - sleeps 9” 2:16:40 PM 9/11/07 “hahaha this is how you sleep 8 in the North Face ... ”8:19:56 PM 9/11/07 “Kelty Mantra is a good quality family tent, comes with full coverage fly and vestabule. Big bucks though. Also check out EMS tents, and Eureka.” 8:53:21 PM 9/11/07 “Two medium tents will probably be better than one giant tent. It is easier to find a place to put them. You will sleep better with fewer folks to disturb you. More privacy and more options all the way around.” 3:16:39 AM 9/12/07 “the eurekas are really easy to set up” 4:16:59 AM 9/12/07 “Two medium tents will probably be better than one giant tent. I have to agree with bacpac on this one. When my son was younger he talked in his sleep loudly and would act out his dreams. We backpacked once in Algonquin and it rained solid for 5 days. There was a group of us and we decided to stay in one tent(one of the teenagers was built like a grizzly and lugged a huge six man tent around for the room). My son kept every one up talking in his sleep and, one night yelled out Superman in his sleep and began punching and flaing his arms around, the guys next to him weren`t to happy. Needless to say we no longer sleep in large groups....(big grin) One more thing is the disturbance kids can make to others when they gotta go PEE !! at night...boy do I remember those days !!” 4:59:27 AM 9/12/07 “I made the mistake once of having a youth group split up in separate tents. It was not pretty. I did not have advisor's assigned to each tent. Sure enough, the guys snuck out of theirs and went peeping tom prowling in the middle of the night. I found out about this a couple weeks later. Fortunately (for me) they were not caught. Never again. When I camped as a kid I we had one tent for parents and dog, one tent for kids. Stupid, stinking, interior center pole umbrella tent. I will never forget that monster. :?)... Those were the days....” 5:08:49 AM 9/12/07 “perhaps HiknMachine has younger children that he would rather have sleeping in the same tent with him, or maybe a small harem of hot babes he wants to enjoy all night long. Perhaps that is why he was asking for a good large tent instead of 2 medium tents.” 5:28:07 AM 9/12/07 ““perhaps HiknMachine has younger children that he would rather have sleeping in the same tent with him, or maybe a small harem of hot babes he wants to enjoy all night long. HISTORY: The impetus for creating such a large geodesic dome tent came directly from expeditionary folks circa 1994. They wanted something both huge and extremely stormproof. A further parameter was that it could not be so big and bulky that it could not be fit onto the back of one Yak. Thus the final tent came in at 6 meters in diameter. I did not measure the tent in Ashford, but I would imagine its inside peak height to be 9 or 10 feet. Further detail is contained below, some of it might give you a chuckle! ”8:44:18 AM 9/12/07 “ If you are going for big, then go for big. (Elephant must be supplied separately.)” 8:51:07 AM 9/12/07 “Ramblinrev, I really like the funhouse idea, but it's a little too colorful for my taste. LOL” 9:38:47 AM 9/12/07 “We have the SD Bedouin 6 Tent. Nice tent, even nicer with a REI 20% off coupon.” 9:43:48 AM 9/12/07 “that tipitent is pretty cool, but the price made my butthole pucker” 9:48:11 AM 9/12/07 “LMAO....thats a response I actually expected...a little more descriptive than needed but the one I expected.....” 10:04:09 AM 9/12/07 “I use the Kifaru 8 man tipi for the whole family - me, my wife, my 17 yr old son, my 10 yr old son, and two dogs(golden and lab size). It's only about 10 lbs.” 10:10:56 AM 9/12/07 “Is that a fire in the middle of the tipi? Ok, I know the indians do this, but they have a flue or whatever at the center top.” 10:18:29 AM 9/12/07 “After my childhood with the stupid, stinkin' center pole umbrella tent I just love the idea of a center pole tent with a fire at the base of the pole. Makes me feel and warm and fuzzy. Just leave me near the door.....” 10:23:00 AM 9/12/07 Tradeoffs... “one pole for the ability to standup to change, etc.... They suggest STOVES as an alternative...and yes there is a Flue hole for the stovepipe... the base of the TIPI has vents and there are others at the top...hot air and smoke rise..you know, like a real TIPI.... http://www.tipitent.com/Tipitent_details.htm last edited: 9/12/07 1:45:58 PM” 1:57:17 PM 9/12/07 “I have a stove for my tipi - it's a little less than 5 lbs and is very effective.” 2:36:32 PM 9/12/07
