The Gathering 2007 in Gettysburg

“Are there going to be any TTers going to the 2007 Gathering in Gettysburg, PA Oct 5-7?”

“Sounds interesting. I am not a member or a distance hiker, do you have to be a member to go? or do you have to pay for membership in additio9n to the event fee?”

“the way I understand it you only need to pay the $10 / person event fee - membership in ALDHA is optional”

Just put a trip together for Gburg 2 or 3 months ago ... interesting place. Gotta friend whose dad was the leading expert on one of the days, a retired official guide. If you see a guy selling paperweights made from one of the famous trees, that's him.”

“Spam the Gathering is mainly a bunch of long distance hikers getting together for the weekend sharing information and good times with fellow hikers (including newbies). Included this year is a concert by Walkin' Jim Stolz and typically many presentations on long trails of interest. Since the Gathering is in the East there is a strong Appalachian Trail presence including some who completed the AT this year. There is a lot of a reunion feel to the Gathering. Less of a party than Trail Days but camping is provided in the event fee on Redding Farm (~5 minutes from the college)- a location used annually for the Gettysburg Battle Reenactment. There will be a quiet camping area and a less quiet camping area at Redding Farm.”
