Well for those who have not put it together, the "rev" is real in my trail name.

But to be honest, not to dis on your idea Sarge, but one of the things I like about TT is getting out with folks who aren't Christian, if for no other reason than i can have a beer or two without having to wonder if it is going to come back and bite me. Jesus turned water into wine, and good wine at that, so I just don't get the mind set. But anyway.... I digress.

So many "Christian" things are stodgey, stuffy and just plain not fun. So I am not sure I would be looking for the faith label when I sign up for a trip. Just my inout.”

“I understand Rev's point though Sarge. There are so many who frown on adult beverages. Pastor had an AWESOME sermon on that a few months ago about how Jesus did turn water into wine and like you said Rev not the cheap stuff either...not just a little but A LOT. His point was where does the judment lie...in those that do and judge those that don't and vice versa. It is a matter of respect not judgement.

It is a HUGE contravercy at my house!

Maybe it's just the pastor experience, but my gosh I have seen so many people who are neat people by themselves just shut down and lose all their vitality when they get around others and start to feel "peer pressure" and all that. I don't mind the sign in... I think that's a nice bit of knowledge to have. But to post a trip under that banner... well... I guess it's not my style. But that's fine.

“I can relate to the Rev. My father is a Pastor of his church. To make a long story short, when I was a kid up to about 9 y.o., we never went to church at all, then all of a sudden it was church 4-5 times a week. My Dad just went waaaaayyyyy overboard in my opinion. Now, everything you do is a sin, everything you eat is a sin, any music that is not gospel music is a sin, if you drink 2 beers a month it is a sin(and you have a drinking problem) if you miss one church service it is a sin.....I could keep going, but you get the point.
There are a lot of other people out there who are the exact same way and I can only imagine what they would think or say if they found out a minister drank a beer.”

As for the Beer and wine contraversy I`d say it`s cultral.

In England christians drink like fish and think nothing of it.

In Austria you can drink like a fish, and smoke but don`t you dare drink coffee.

In Romania you can smoke and drink coffee but don`t you dare drink alcohol.

It`s different every where,I`ll have the occascional beer,but not if it is going to offend someone or cause someone to stumble.

Christianity is about a relationship with Jesus Christ,not a set of rules that say "do" or "don`t" if I wanted that I`d of converted to Judaism.

Unfortunately today much of todays church is nothing more than Judaized christianity.

Unfortunately, none of us can come close to reflecting the life of J.C., but as Christians, we're commanded to try.

A Christian loves Christ enough to try, but ultimately knows we cannot meet His standard and acknowledges the price He paid for us on the cross. A Chr9stian accepts Him as Lord (who commands us), and Savior (of our sinful selves).

He lobbied the powers that be to forsake the Biblically referenced "wine" in favor of unfermented grape juice in serving the Lord's Supper. Seems they read scripture to say that the wine was not really wine after all, just grape juice. So once old man Welches got his way in the Lord's Supper everything else just naturally followed. How true that is I don't know for sure. But I suspect it is fairly accurate.”

"Good wine" was considered unfermented at the time, i.e., "grape juice". The wine Jesus made was most likely very weak wine by today's standards. Of course, Christians are prohibited from excess drinking anyways, so whether weak or strong, the point is not to get wasted.”

Having said that... unfermented wine does not burst wine skins. Nor does the steward of the wedding declare the wine "acceptable". He raves about it and declares it most excellent.

I respect and acknowledge the difference of opinions on this issue, which is all the more reason that I enjoy being able have a beer or two without fear of offending one of my brothers or sisters in the faith. I can truthfully say I have not been drunk in over 30 years and that was before I came to faith. During my Pagan days I can not make such a claim. But it was the foolishness of drunkenness and not fear of sin that moved me to that position.”

Marko, you are correct(from what I have read) about the wine being a substitute for water due to health concern. Water wasnt fresh back in the day. That is a modern deal for sure. Also many other biblical prohibitions were along the same line, not eating pork and shellfish (poor sanitation and lack of refirgeration).

Too much ado is made in many churches about this (alcohol) IMO. At the SBC church I taught at for 7 years the pastors wife once told me that if she had known I was a smoker (quit years ago) that she wouldnt have allowed her kids in my class (4of em). I kinda chuckled. Youd hear sermons on drinking, smoking, sex and drugs but never about gossip, gluttony (a biggy there) and other things. Blinders is all.

I've had a beer with our youth pastor and still have yet to be struck down.
