“Late Summer Blast Trip Report Friday afternoon, Fifthmaster made two boat trips to Camp Bliss to set up the Taj Mahal (our tent) and the camp kitchen. Windigrrl met Golfhiker and Berniedawg in the parking lot. They asked if there was really going to be food there because they didn’t have a lot of food with them. She told them there would be enough food for everyone. They hiked the 1.6 miles to Camp Bliss and set up their tents/hammocks. I left for a while to pick up Luke. I snapped a photo of two turtles in a romantic interlude in the middle of the trail. I thought I might see them smoking tiny cigarettes on the way back. I met Randall and Guitargal in the parking lot. We hiked in just as it was getting dark and arrived in time to eat bratwurst and salad. Chili, NG and Mariposa showed up a little later. We sat around the fire and told stories most of which included “hold my beer and watch this” or alcohol was involved. Chili and I enjoyed screwdrivers, others enjoyed cold beer and other assorted cocktails. We got up around 9 I think and ate scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon. We then set off on our hikes. Chili, NG and I set off to tackle the entire Canal Loop. We saw a lone turtle and stopped to show him the picture I shot the night before (they made me do it). We met up with Berniedawg and Golfhiker for lunch. Golfhiker joined us on the rest of the hike. Mariposa did less miles than she anticipated and Windigrrl got some decent miles in. They enjoyed an afternoon nap at the campsite. Randall and Guitargal fished and caught enough for their lunch. The weather was gorgeous! The sun was shining through the trees leaving golden droplets of sunshine throughout the forest. We enjoyed many scenic lake views and boats on the lake. Golfhiker saw his yacht out on the lake and was upset that the captain didn’t pick him up on the shore. As we entered camp, we saw Windi with a cutting up firewood with a chainsaw. Pretty menacing. We almost kept going. We changed into our bathing suits and hit the lake with Mojitos, margaritas and other cold beverages in hand. Kodie had a good time swimming and rolling in rotten fish on the lake shore. After our swim, we ate smoked pork shoulder sandwiches and fried cabbage. Fifthmaster made a beer run during the day so the cooler was full again. Maybe we should change his name to rum runner. The sunset was beautiful. Mariposa and I enjoyed it while walking along the beach. Randall, Guitargal and Dave took turns playing the guitar and singing. Randall told stories about Civil War reenactments, among other things. Luke said his favorite part of the weekend was Randall’s stories. He thought they were so funny, especially when Randall was imitating Gemini. I turned in early. It rained a little during the night. I heard it and thought “maybe everything won’t get wet” and went back to sleep. Sunday morning we had omelettes with green peppers, onions, mushrooms, cheese, sausage and spam. We also had orange juice, milk and V8. Golfhike gave a demonstration of his Hennesy hammock. I got to get me one of those! Everyone packed up soon after and left. It’s really hard to leave when the weather is so beautiful but we packed up the tent and cook stove and left as well – after I went for another swim. last edited: 9/19/07 4:43:49 PM” 4:55:37 PM 9/19/07 Stomper!! great work!!! “Ok Now that we know you can do this kinda stuff, you got no excuse!!!
