I am not worried about the river styx trip cause as far as I know the trailhead is not real accessible.

Don't pass on the Chimayo cocktails so quickly. Yum, yum. Especially in the fall around a fire.

That's what I was thinking Path. Thanks for the recipe. It sounds quite tasty. I'll be making some soon. Is it better with gold, or blanco?

Great idea Rev. I have found when hiking with people of other views and convictions that most everyone has always concentrated on sharing the common/positive aspects of each other's faith.

ok I guess I should come clean. There was a hidden agenda here. As far as I am concerned it worked... and I thank you all for humoring me.

My desire was to break us out of the sectarian compounds that had developed and let us get back to lobbing good natured snowballs at each other. Frankly I don't care what happens to this thread cause as far as I am concerned it worked its magic. Thanks folks. It was fun to watch.

Spirit Coyote...

Sounds like a plan.. but don't wait for me. I know a route that bypasses purgatory and is supposed to give me the best views I can imagine. Plus the water don't need to be treated.

BTW do filters work for the water in the river Styx?
Ramblinrev

You may have to prefilter through a bandana.
Spirit Coyote

Thst's kind of what I thought

Of course the last time I stood on the banks of the river Styx I didn't have the two gold pieces to pay Charon. But if you are planning to paddle over in your own boat maybe that is a moot point.

I don't think I can even say that right in my head...

fly fish for a fish fly, er uh...

None of the fishing boards have any tips for fishing the Styx. Slackers. Fishermen hate having to actually walk to the good spots.

Maybe a bake instead of a fry? Then again, I doubt cooking method will make much difference...

I think I'll go for a swim.

How would one eat a fish out of that?

What if the fish don't die?
spindlette
9:53:09 AM
9/23/07

Now hang on... you know the story of the Monkey's paw and all those other tales where immortality is granted. but that don't stop the decay or aging process. If you gotta prefilter it through a bandana I'm not sure I would care to eat out of it, swim in it or much else.

I rather consider myself fortunate that I lacked the gold pieces to buy passage. And for the record I am fairly serious when I refer to standing on it's banks. Between being trapped in a burning car and considering self dispatching myself from this world I have stood there.

Can't say I'm in a hurry, but can't say I am overly concerned. But then I met a guy who been there and come back to give a great trail report. Gave me the guidebook too... so I guess I'll just hike along and follow the blazes.

a word about those immortal fish from the styx.... sushi!

Also you can ride styx economy class for a pair of pennies.

There is of course Queen's take on immortality... Who wants to live forever (when lovers die)

Personally there are things much worse then death you can experiance.

and finally, if the road to hell is paved with good intentions then... Were on the highway to hell!

If I understand correctly the Charon does not ferry the dead to "Hell" but rather to Hades or the underworld. While Christians commonly hold Hell to be the same thing I do not find the commonality others claim is there. In other words... to me Hades and Hell are _not_ the same.

Encyclopedia Mythica has a very interesting discussion of the River Styx Spirit Coyote... you would most certainly not want to swim in it according to that discussion.

You will find it at the following link
