Hey I'm still trying to put together a new years hike, and am considering somewhere in MI. Would you be up for that Coyote?
What do you think NCT? This is your stompin grounds. Where's a good place this time of year for a med to large group?

Hmm, You could be talking big time snow? many Michigan state parks rent log cabins that sleep as many as 8 people.

Wilderness State park would be very nice and they have their own trails, plus the NCT runs through the park as well.

The area's to hike in Michigan are great and numerous. Tahquamenon Falls State park is a great winter location as well. Base-camping at the Lower Falls campground (unplowed, in winter)

Possibly, especially in the U.P. Although the way the winters have been the last few years? You could get a big snowstorm one weekend, then melt off and have little to no snow the next? Odds are probably not, although, I would take my snowshoe's just in case.

You can always call and find out how much snow is on the ground for the location of your planned trip as well?

The last MRT winter hike we did, had zero snow in January, but 1-2 weeks prior to the trip, they had over a foot of snow?

I'm not NCT, but your travel time, for example, to the Manistee River Trail (MRT) mentioned by NCT would be roughly 6.5 hours in good driving conditions. Mesick, MI is about the closest town to the trail if you want to check the location.

You wish though LOL !!! So, the lurker is still out there?

Hi Cow patty, got room for more on our upcoming Oct.12th-14th NCT hike?

I promise, I won't leave you hanging like the last hike. Not to worry, I don't hike with that person anymore.

So far, its just Steelhead and myself going, should be an awesome trip, hopefully with some decent color remaining too and maybe even the tamaracks, will be aglow?

I am seriously thinking of the AT from I-81 to Damascus between 12/29-1/5. Don't have my map handy but I-81 is the general start point. Could be some wicked weather on Mt. Rogers.

I am thinking of Columbus Day weekend for a trip so the next weekend would not work for me.

Now I think I've got family coming down that weekend so my nephews can do the annual "pumpkin farm" gig. I'm out all the way around.
