That's just your misunderstanding of their nature. This is all about nature, and perception of it. Your perception of nature pushes you to think that they must be interested in revenge, but if you understood their perception of nature, you wouldn't.

Your tendency is to think "people who wear ties are stuffy and greedy", but that's just a stereotype you've allowed yourself to succumb to. Your perception of their actions is guided by your own feelings and biases, and has little to do with the reality of their perception, which is what matter here. What is their intent? Do you know? They've told you, but you choose not to believe them. You have a distrust for conservatives. Fine, nothing wrong with that - until that distrust dictates your perception of their intentions, which it has.”
