I've heard its beautiful, but i haven't actually been there! I'm trying to plan a weekend trip to go and hike some type of circuit but havent been able to find much information here, or anywhere google sent me about circuits hikes there.

Anyone done any good hikes / heard of anything good down that way in southwest VA?

OH DUDE...lets go! Uhhh lets see, you wanna talk to Fridge about this. He's the expert. There is this trail, i forgot the name of I've always wanted to go on...and you have to go up by Rhodo Gap. It's amazing...You could have a cool hike if you start from Grayson Highlands too....

First, get the national geographic map for Mt. Rogers. It's got mucho mucho detail. If you already have the AT maps cool beans, I actually sorta prefer them. You can check your sources off each other.

Figure out how many miles you're lookin at doin and of course, determine what sorta places you'd like to camp and then let me commandeer your trip and...drive you crazy until the thing is over :)

Just park at Grayson Highlands, go to the AT and make a loop with the Pine mtn. trail.
Plan at least one camp at Rhodo. Gap and a side trip to Mt. Rogers.

Totally check out Grayson Highlands. Incredible. I went for a leisurely weekend trip and kept forgetting to hike...I'd sit on a rock to take in a view and before I knew it 20-30 minutes passed. It is FANTASTIC! And there's the wild pony bonus.

I hadn't thought about posting the trip since it will be 5-6 days. Not many can get away for that long. As of now, it's solo with the slight possibility of a friend coming with if he doesn't find a job by then.

Crash, no on the Partnership shelter. It's only a tenth of a mile south of the headquarters. I'm hoping to get around 10 miles in that day, putting me at Trimpi Shelter.

Hey Fridge, ya lookin' to make a few extra bucks? ;)

i've never done enough of the AT to merit getting a map or a guide. i stumbled across the "thru-hikers companion" and didnt know if its contents were for literal hiking or just for study/planning. either way, any recommendations for a good AT map of VA or any of the rest of the trail for that matter?
