I'm sure you recall, the researchers in the movie discovered that the 'Scoop' satellite was sent up for the express purpose of collecting possible candidates for use in biological war.

It succeeded beyond the designers' hopes when it 'netted' Andromeda in Scoop's collector, clinging to the surface of a sand-sized meteoroid.... not the classical Big Old Scary Rock,       < VBG >

I'm thinking the author had a vague conglomeration of other sci-fi movies bouncing around in her head.  Perhaps it was Post Traumatic Stress from "It Conquered The World"....”

Um I know the accuracy of the media...but I thought the Andromeda Strain was started by a piece of rock embedded in a Sattelite or other piece of space equipment that crashed.”

“Talk about a small world, I'm reading the following article and they mention the new miniseries near the very bottom. The producer of Numb3rs (and director of the Numb3rs opener this year, and director of Top Gun, etc) Tony Scott, is currently producing the Andromeda miniseries.
