Meteorite illness solved?

Scientists say the "sickness" that struck locals after a meteorite crash is mass

The fumes being released are being carried by powerful trade winds into the equatorial exchange zone where the jet streams from each hemisphere mix. These fumes are so highly volatile that in a short time it is anticipated they will contaminate the vast majority of the northern hemisphere. Folks.. this is going to make the asian bird flu scare look like a senior class prank.

Andromeda Strain, the movie, was pretty cool.

I saw that on the Live Science site just yesterday and was pretty disappointed in the write-up:  There was no meteorite in the movie --- the author is confused and/or uninformed.

I'm sure you recall, the researchers in the movie discovered that the 'Scoop' satellite was sent up for the express purpose of collecting possible candidates for use in biological war.

It succeeded beyond the designers' hopes when it 'netted' Andromeda in Scoop's collector, clinging to the surface of a sand-sized meteoroid.... not the classical Big Old Scary Rock,       < VBG >

I'm thinking the author had a vague conglomeration of other sci-fi movies bouncing around in her head.  Perhaps it was Post Traumatic Stress from "It Conquered The World"....

Hey tech...remember this line?

"They took it to the doctor."

Um I know the accuracy of the media...but I thought the Andromeda Strain was started by a piece of rock embedded in a Sattelite or other piece of space equipment that crashed.

Done. Interesting that an unreleased 4-hour miniseries based on the movie is listed, too.

Talk about a small world, I'm reading the following article and they mention the new miniseries near the very bottom. The producer of Numb3rs (and director of the Numb3rs opener this year, and director of Top Gun, etc) Tony Scott, is currently producing the Andromeda miniseries.
