We'll be snowshoeing, and pulling sleds. We probably won't do more than 4 miles per-day, being its off trail travel with map & compass.
I'm a duffer, so I just follow along and hope for the best?

You all have a good trip down there, you'll probably be a touch warmer, although the temps are very cold up here now, the weekend is supposed to be in the mid-30's which ain't bad on a winter trip.

Unless someone else is coming in Friday night/Sat morning I guess when mg gets there we can set up the last shuttle for the folks leaving Mon afternoon.”

“I've gotten myself in a nice little wedge. Something popped on a job I did a few years back outside of Knoxville. I told the client I was going to be through there and could drop in Friday afternoon to check on things. Now, things on other projects are popping up that can't wait til I get back in the office on Wed. I have an all day Tues meeting. Normally, it would almost make me have to bail on the trip but I've committed to going to Knoxville on Friday. Dang this is going to either suck to back all the way out or stay up half hte night to pull it off.”

“I'm still in but ya'll are makin' me nervous here! BTW- what's the actual hiking plans? I should be getting to the Koomer Ridge campground about nine or ten Friday night. For anyone who's getting there earlier that I haven't met, how am I gonna know you? I'll be the goofy lookin' guy in the silver Toyota Yaris.”

Y'all can do what ever the fruck ya want on Saturday. I'll be parking at the pinch'em tight TH on Tunnel ridge road sometime. I wont be there till noon on Sat. so I may just go bum around and see some of the sights. Anyone would be welcome to join me. Just let me know and I'll e-mail you my cell#. Saturday night I planned on camping just west of the rush ridge trail on the sheltowee. My topo shows what looks like a nice flat area about 1/4mi past that intersection. This puts us really close to the parking lot (3/4mi) and hopefully we will be able to find a legal spot and be left alone. Sunday I planned on finding a nice camp site in the valley between half moon rock, and Chimney top rock. This will pu us close to the suspension bridge parking area for those who want to leave early on Monday morning, or Sunday night.

“MG - I WAS staying Sun night. Crap, crap, crap, I just had more stuff dumped in my lap today that can't wait until Wed. This Tues meeting I'm stuck with is partly screwing the whole thing up. I have to back out. I hate this.

I'll call Nigal to let me know. I emailed him early this morning that it was a go too. I'm fully packed and even bought a pint of Makers Mark for the trip.

The fun part of it is that the side meeting I set up since I would be in the area is now and obligation. I'm getting up at the buttcrack of dawn tomorrow to drive almost 5 hrs, look around the building for 1.5hrs and then 5 hrs back home. Dammit, dammit, dammit.”

“PS, the thing that sucks about this is you make an obligation to a group of people (TT'ers) that you'll be somewhere and then you get nailed. I feel terrible about this. Yall can hate on me all you want all over the board for this. This sucks.

I thought I had things taken care of when I left last night, came in at 4am this morning to still get about 7 hrs in before leaving and it still gets yanked out from under. Dammit.

“I missed the lodge meal in Jan when I went for RRG for the first time. We were going to have to wait about 90 minutes before they served food and decided to hit the road.”

“I guess I'll hoist what I was brining for the trip. I was bringing the last little bit of Woodford Reserve that I still had and some Makers Mark. Since the state store didn't have Woodford in a pint size I opted for the Makers. I've never tried it.”

“Makers is real good stuff. If you like Woodford you'll probably like Makers too.They are on the same level of quality in my opinion.”

“THe thing is, I normally can't sip bourbon just hanging out in the living room. Even the good stuff. Now if it's cold out and and I'm by a campfire, different story. I'll probably work some tonight, do the long drive tomorrow, and then do some house stuff since we're still not done unpacking after the move in Sept. Oh yeah, I gotta unpack my gear. That's actually gonna suck to unpack clean gear.”

“I still don't get to use the GG Vapor trail I bought last March. I used up every bit of the extension collar to get all of my crap in there. I'm going to like that pack. I even had room for the chair inside the pack....barely.”

“I could probably fit everything into my gregory with the extension collar, but I don't want to put such a silly load on it and risk blowing out a strap. I'll bring my massive external Jansport Carson 90 instead. It rides like a big ol' Caddy anyway.”

“When I got to the TH I was going to take everything out and make some changes. I was sleeping in a different bag and tent for Friday than I was on the hike. I'd have probably strapped the chair to the outside and made room for a 14x14 siltarp that I made. There is a chance of rain Sat and Sun night and I wanted a big common area just in case. Since it was warm I packed the quilt and tarptent. Dammit, I need to quit talking about it. 8(”

“Hey thanks for the idea DH! I'll swing by my folks' house tonight and borrow a tarp from my dad.”

“Man, I just checked the hourly forecast for tonight and into tomorrow, and it's gonna rain till 0600 then the temp drops to 30* and we're getting ice. It may be a bit later than noon before I get there if the roads are really ugly. It will be really slow going at least till I get south of the ice. It's always an adventure!”

“Hey folks do me a favor and take your name off th list if you aren't coming, and put it on if you are please. I don;t want anyone needing a shuttle to get left behind, and I sure don't want to be waiting around for someone who is never gonna show either.”

“right on bro. I'm leaving my house about 0700 so depending on how bad the ice is hopefully I will be there about 1200. Be sure to bring your rain gear. I'm bringing a tarp, and string for making a common area to get out of the rain. Do you think I should meet you at Koomer or somewhere else?”
