What can we expect for temps on this trip?”

NCT: Temps are too soon to tell. It could be as high as 60 during the day, or as cold as 0 at night. Not both though. I would expect 30-40 days, and 20-30 nights. If you are driving through Indy on Saturday I would be happy to give you a lift, and any one else who could fit in my Grand Prix.”

BrittC is a new co-worker, and possibly the youngest current TT'er that I know of. She just turned 21 a couple months ago.”

“So, is there an itinerary for this trip yet?”

“There was talk of doing the Sheltowee Trace north bound from Natural bridge. If we did this I assume some would come in on Friday night and car camp, I will be arriving on Saturday night, and will try to either catch up then, or on Sunday morning, and hike north till Monday afternoon. Hopefully someone will stay Sunday night so I can get a shuttle.

The beauty of a TT trip is that: While I plan on doing this as a Sat-Mon trip some will do it as a Fri-Sun and it's all good!

I am open to suggestion as far as the route goes, I just thought this would give us all a nice sampling of the Gorge, and would make it easy for those coming and going/shuttles etc.”

I was told you were pretty busy planning this trip. I was wondering if you might visit and respond to the thread on the Adena Trace/Wolf Creek Trail trip. I have to arrange for time off and need to know by this Saturday, October 13. I had planned to ask for Nov. 5 & 6 off (Monday & Tuesday) to do this trip.

“If I can get marital permission to do a Dec trip, and that's usually a stretch, then I'll probably drive up Friday night. Any idea of the start time Sat morning? I'd probably leave the office 3-ish on Friday and grab a hotel somewhere between Knoxville and Lexington.

I told birch that I'm going to use house construction keeping me away from hiking as my excuse to go in Dec. I haven't been on a big hike but 2x this year. Jan at RRG and March at Sipsey. I did get 2 bag nights in the Smokies with the kids, HPM, TB, Stew, chili, and NGB in July though. That was fun. We backpacked 1 night and the 2nd was just me and the kids at Cataloochee.”

“I'm still in the negotiating phase on this trip. Is everyone congregating Sat morning and starting the hike then or are folks streaming in through the dat on Sat? I'm trying to figure out if this is a 3 or 2 night trip is why I'm curious. THX”

“The cool thing about this trip is it will be as many or as few nights as you want! I wont be showing up till very late Saturday night, but I'm sure some will want to come in on Friday night, or Saturday morning. Also, I won't be leaving till Monday afternoon, while some may head out as soon as possible on Sunday. All that needs to be done is make shuttle arrangements, and I don't think that will be any big deal.”

“cool. I brought this up again at lunch. Dec 5 Bama and Georgetown play b-ball followed by Auburn and Villanova. Tickets are $20 and one ticket gets you in both games. THis came up at work today and we'd talked about an office group going. I brought up the b-ball game and then mentioned I couldn't do that and RRG and really needed to start making a decision. I think I made headway. I've thought that before though. Normally, this would be a non-issue but Dec is normally crazy. Now that we've finished building and selling the house and the baby isn't quite a baby anymore I think my life is going to return to some state of normalcy. Part of that is taking cool TT trips.

We have to be back home Monday by 3pm for my work and Birch's final exam at school. Meangreen, I was hoping you'd be coming in earlier on Saturday. Is the plan to kind of hike at your own time and meet up at Campsites or will we all be all over the place?”

“If I do this, I was planning on leaving the office around 2-3 on Friday and doing basically what you describe Sass.

I figured if standing right there with that view didn't work then nothing would. The actual conversation took place at night at the end of the confernce sponsered carnival. A few rum and cokes had been consumed. It was a good evening.”

Truth is, I will get out of work as soon as I can on Saturday, but it may not be before 8:00 pm. That would put me in Slade at 11:00 at the earliest. The idea was to catch up to the group either that night, or early in the AM and hike and camp on Sunday/monday. I think everyone will generally be hiking together. You know how it goes with a big group though. We always end up kinda spread out.”

That's fine Meangreen, but at the first sign of a log flying I'm running for cover, (like I should have the first time!)!!”

“I'm gonna spend some time actually looking at a map tonight to see just what routes/camp sites would be best and I'll post something more specific tomorrow. There is also a loop in Clifty that I would like to do but I don't know anything about it, and good trail/topo maps of Clifty seem to be a little harder to find. If anyone has some I would love to know how to get some.”
