I really hate that monday is my last day of class I am gonna try to weasel out somehow. Maybe cash in some extra credit or the fact that I have helped about 10 students to understand crap the teacher was bad at explaining.

I hope the weather is good.

Me too! That would be cool if you could go all the way to Gladdie.

Dang, I'd jump on a $200 Hawaii trip. Private planes rock. I got to take a site visit about 4-5 years ago in Nashville on a private jet. Very cool, too bad it only lasted about 45 minutes. A charter to HI would be awesome. Speaking of good liquor....

It's not so glamorous DH. We don't run Gulfstream 5's we fly 757 and 737's mostly. The trip to HI would be like riding in a cattle car from Chicago to Honolulu, then I would get on a puddle jumper.

birch - how would that effect when you leave to come back? It's sounding like we both will get there about the same time and need to leave about the same time. We could setup a shuttle Friday night or early Sat and then go from there.

Ods are, I would get bumped after boarding and all my gear would fly to HI with out me, then I would spend a week tracking it down only to get back a shredded, empty pack.

So far the shuttle thing is kinda helter skelter, but I think most of it will be best worked out when we see exactly how many show, and who needs a lift to where.

Miguel's may be closed but I can already taste the buffet in the Lodge!

Yeah, that's probably a week of the trip thing. Since they want to leave early on Mon and I do too I thought we could do an independant shuttle. There really may not be a need to do it that way though.

I'm still approaching this on the homefront as if I'm going but qualifying that it's not 100% until early in Dec. Seems to be working so far.

Shredded gear in Hawaii would suck big time. Going to your company and saying, "Oh, by the way, I need a grand for my gear you shredded," would probably go over pretty well too.

Ya, that and the fact that if you get bumped on your way home and miss a day of work because of it, it's automatic termination. You do not travel unless you can buy a ticket home in an emergency. It's not that great of a deal really.

MG, all of the horrors you went through would be gone when you stepped foot on the trail in Kauaui. Totally worth it.

It is freakin bad azz!

Birch, telling your teacher you want out of class because you explained things better than they did might not be the way to go:) I'd go with good ole fashioned azz kissin.

I don't already have one but don't put it past me to wear one with a pizza box loin cloth. I'll either cut a hole or stick it out the top. Though, the ladies on the trip will have to give me a little lee-way if there is any slippage on the sheath, and they catch a peek. It's gonna be cold you know! Now I just need to find something good for making a sheath. Anyone got a tiki torch I could cut about 3' off of? LOL!

You may want to stick to your insulated pants, and longjohns, and don't let Doolittle talk you into wearing your kilt regiment either. Better yet, eddit your post quick, and it'll just be between us, and I'll never tell a soul, cuz i don't care. ;-)

Sign me up
Well, I was planning on the Turkey Day trip in the Cumberland Gap on being the last trip of the year for me, but this thread has changed my mind. I don't see how I could miss out on this legendary trip and not regret it later.

I am going to officially put myself down as a maybe since there are a few things that I might need to work out. Those would be getting Monday off and seeing about carpooling down there with someone from the Indy area.

Without reading the whole thread again, is it my understanding that there will be some people going down on Friday?

This will only be my second trip with the TT'ers, so take it easy on me!

The only thing we will be taking easy on this trip is the mileage, but Welcome aboard! I won't be showing up till late on Saturday night, and may already have one rider, but I have room for more, and some others are either coming from or passing through Indy on their way down. Who have you hiked with from TT Willi4?
I hope you don't offend easily because we are a bit shameless, but we have a damn good time! The last trip was the stuff of legends, and hopefully this one will keep the reputation up. LOL!

Easy mileage is a good thing considering everything that could possibly go down. I have signed up for the Thanksgiving Day trip at the Cumberland Gap. That will be my first official trip with the TT'ers. I have done some packing in the past couple of years, but primarily by myself.

I notice that Jimmysan does some climbing with you guys too. I would really like to get in on some of that in the spring if you guys don't mind.

There aren't a lot of climbers here but I'm sure Jimmysan could direct you to the right forum for that. RRG is rock climbing Mecca, so you will at least be in the right place. We are a pretty wide mix of nutcases, but we all love to hike. It's the ONLY thing everyone can agree on around here. The cool thing is that once we are on the trail 99% of the bickering stops and everyone is cool to just hike and camp and have a good time. (At least in my experience)

Good. Sounds like fun!

I guess I will just sit back and wait to see if there are some folks that will be coming down from Indy close to my schedule. Thanks for the info MG.

LMFAO!!!!

Hey I was in the liquor store last night getting my bottle of Rare Breed, and I notice the dude behind the counter is looking at the outraGis maps of RRG, so we start talking and he is planning a 120 mile section hike of the sheltowee. What are the odds? I told him about trail talk, so if you see him post up say howdy for me. He seemed like a real nice guy.

For those coming in on Friday night, I still have not contacted anyone about the car campground being open that late in the year. Please bear in mind that you may need to stealth camp or find an alternative for that night like Koomer Ridge or something.

I figured I'd sleep right next to my car under a tarp. Will I wind up in jail for that? Keep in mind it'll be 10 or 11 when I get there.

Prolly not DH, but the rangers do patrol the trail heads, and parking lots till late in the evening.

Chili, we'd love to have you bro. I don't think I've ever laughed as hard as I did the first night in Mamoth cave last spring... though I don't remember much else of that evening.
