“CMB and I have reduced our waste by a huge percentage in the last couple of years. We have a small garbage can we put out once a month instead of weekly. Food and yard waste and junkmail get composted, most everything we buy can either be reused or recycled somehow. We buy bulk---beans, flour, rice, etc. Infact Usually we need only got shopping once a month, sometimes less in the summer when I have fresh fruit and veggies coming from my garden. Its possible crazygurl :). You just have to really think about what you are doing and how waste can be lessened.”

The problem most happy little libbies miss is "What happens when you aren't in charge?"

Say we have a major incident right before an election. As a result we get a really strong "RIGHT WING" group in. And before we know it someone like James Dobson is making the rules.

Not just MAKING the rules, but you have to pay IF you don't play by their rules. They decide that "drugs are bad m'kay" so for your own "protection" there are random drug screenings put near everywhere. The Ultra Baptist types get in charge and decide..."well they taxed the crap out of tobacco, lets pack $10.00 a six pack on to pay for what ever little "Government plan" they want.”

“I like your ideas, but all I was doing was urging caution (ref the Dobson stuff) which we see. I personally have started being more conservative with the foods we cook. I found that I don't have to make a HUGE meal. Sometime homemade "Whatchagot" soup is great...plus it uses leftovers.”

the only thing I would caution is that using used kitty litter/poop in the landscape and compost is that cat poop can harbor parisites that are detrimental to other critters--and of course don't use it where you will be growing crops.
