Another option for us to consider for this trip is to basecamp at the intersection of Linville Gorge trail and Conley Cove trail and then dayhike to the top of Tablerock. The road to Tablerock is usually closed at that time of year so we will more than likely have it all to ourselves. For those that haven't been to Linville in awhile there is a new foot bridge that crosses the river at the exact location where Smokygirl swam across two years ago.For those that would like to do some trout fishing you will have that option as well.

Let me know what you all think.

The view from Tablerock is simply awesome. You can see Lake James from up there and a full view of the Gorge all the way to the Falls as well as a great view of Hawksbill.

If anybody has matches and gas, feel free to burn the bridge at Spence. Never should have been built. Its against Wilderness rules. Of this weekend, loops with Spence down to Cambric Branch and up to Devils Hole. Need to make sure my coon dog navigation skills not too rusty. Unfortunately it will be crawling with people.

mildbill glad to have ya along.

ductape I don't think that the Linville Gorge would be a place that you would want to be in the snow.I can't imagine climbing up the Pinch In or the Conley Cove trail in the snow or especially in snow shoes!

The picture is atop Hawksbill looking down gorge to Table Rock, NC wall and Shortoff.

Had good trip hike last weekend. Somebody needs to take down/burn the teepee below Conley Cove. River X-ing fairly easy, take time and poles. Dry bag for equiopment. Cambric Ridge pretty burned over but trail discernable. Shi*load of people at Table Rcok parking area. Bear hunters out running dogs.

I don't think my WM Ultralite could handle -31. If its that cold, you guys will just have to freeze your butts off without me. I am hoping for ~50* highs and ~30* lows.

Babel Tower is where we have met for the last several years now.Last year I think the lows were in the 30's and highs in the 60's.The first year we did this trip it was 10 when we hit the trail.I guess Linville is like a box of chocolates.

edoc what the heck are you talking about...a teepee? Also why would we need to do a river crossing when there is a new footbridge there?
