No you don't need to check with jerbear. It's a public trip, anyone is free to sign up. Welcome aboard!

welcome willi4. Yes there are many Hoosiers here, myself included. I don't think I'm going to be on this trip, or I'd offer to carpool. I think I'm going to be at Mt. Rogers. If it changes, I'll let you know.
I'm sure you'll have fun. You will be hiking with a great group!
Join us for the Mob-fest trip. there will be many Hoosiers on that trip you can get a ride with.

Yes! Cumberland Gap is a pet friendly park. Dogs are allowed on the trails as long as they are on a leash.

This rule is not enforced as long as you have a well trained trail dog. I never have had any of my dogs on leash.

I guess I will just wait until closer to the trip to see how many other Hoosiers might be going down.

Thanks for all of the info, guys. I look forward to the trip.

Have fun everyone. If you make it to CO, be sure to look me up!

Works for us. How many tents will they allow on a site? Will it be cheaper to get a group site?

According to the NPS page, a fire ban is now in effect. Hopefully it will lift before this trip.

Assuming cowpatty is there on Wed, we are up to three tents. I think Jerbear will be there as well. If this looks like it is going over the 4 tent limit, I will call to get a group site.

I will not arrive until Friday morning. I'm starting at the other end and hiking towards y'all to Hensley.

Stokley, so you are going to be hiking in the opposite direction the entire time? Or are you going to get to Hensley, turn around and exit the way you came?
willi4

Stokley, that's actually a very good idea. The ridge trail doesn't have very many dips once you're on top of the mountain between White Rocks and Hennsley.

The camp is before Hennsley, so make sure you take time the next day or that afternoon before it gets dark to explore the settlement.

Coming back to White Rocks, make sure you guys stop at Sand Cave. It's pretty spectacular.

And if there is decent weather, make sure you do a night hike up to White Rocks. You won't be disappointed. :)

I'm so jealous. You guys are going to have so much fun. :)

Think of me as I'm driving west-ward.

FYI...I just spoke with the NPS re water. There is always water at Hensley. As of a week ago, the water sources at Sand Cave and White Rocks was dry. However, they've had alot of rain this week and that may have changed, but don't depend on it. Plan to carry water from Hensley according to the Ranger I spoke with.

Hopefully that stream ya'll will cross to get to Hennsley has plenty of water. The water pump at the settlement leaves a little to be desired (it came out orange when we pumped it).

Really? Sand Cave was dry? Wow... That means the falls aren't flowing either? Bummage.

Hopefully they continue getting rain for ya'll. I recall the stream at White Rocks being pretty good. Of course, we were there in April and there had been a really good soaking rain a few days before we got there.

Hopefully ya'll have the same luck. :)

BTW, I actually have an East Coast Trekker Patch.

When I met bpbaby, many, many, moons ago, she showed me her very neat tattoo and gave me that patch.

One of my prized possessions.
