Fall Trip To Shawnee
Getting ready for a fall trip to Shawnee State Forest, Southern Ohio. Haven't backpacked since Memorial Day, and trying to make up for lost time! Any questions, feel free to chime in...

There's actually a big trip planned to Hocking Hills that weekend with my Flickr group. It's not often you get a bunch of city-photography nerds into the woods so I'd better stick to them so they don't get lost ;-) You're welcome to join us if you like, thanks for the invite!

Hey Fulcrum, if I end up not doing the Masten trip, you can count me in on this. I'll have to see what happens as the month progresses.

Shawnee
Sounds good. I've been wanting to hike Shawnee again. I haven't hiked it since July 4th weekend. I need to check my schedule and make sure I'm free that weekend.

Cub Scouts
Fulcrum,

I've got a Cub Scout outing with my pack on the 27th so I won't be able to make this. I could make Nov 3rd though.

Bearbag:

I would say comparing Zaleksi to Shawnee is like comparing apples to oranges...two very different animals. Zaleski is a overall better laid out trail; much more enjoyable. However, my only gripe is that sometimes during the spring & summer months it can be busy. When you move to fall & winter, the people thin out.

Shawnee is a very tough hike, lots of ups and downs. But, if you are looking for a physical challenge & solitude, Shawnee would be worth checking. I know of some Ohio hikers who have used the vast network of trails to train for the AT, so that is one thing to be considered for training towards future trips you may take.

It's a toss up, but for this time of the year, I would probably pick Zaleski as the better trip.
