Is it True?
Are women judged more harshly for crying in public then men? I always thought Clinton's tears were fake but they were acceptable..where as Ellen was slammed for crying over her dog.

What do yall think?

I think Ellen was slammed because of the whole business behind the crying, and her public trashing of the adoption agency. She was the one who didn't adhere to their rules. They have their reasons for not wanting their animals in homes with kids younger than 15. Ellen either ignored that or never paid any attention or forgot. The whole situation would have been avoided if she had returned the dog to the agency like she was supposed to.

I also think sometimes when someone is different people look for easy reasons to attack them. It was a rotten situation. She shouldn't have brought it to our living rooms. Emotions can make you do/say stupid stuff though.

Good points Sass.

I found the article interesting though how we think it is some what 'noble' for men to cry (which I'm not against...I think they should and often) but if a woman cries in public they are just another emotional woman.

I'll be honest, I didn't read the article. In Bill's case I'd say his crying was calculated. In my opinion, it really depends on the woman. Tammy Faye Baker, yes, emotional woman. Ellen? Naw, just pissed off beyond reason.

there are some rules, but they're not strict.
For example, ok for anyone to cry at the loss of a loved-one.
Poor form to cry because someone was mean to you at work.

If that happens I just throw the book at them.

ooooooooh, not the book!

Hate crying in front of people. And at work is the worst. That said, my father died suddenly this year and I can't tell you how many times I've started crying in front of people. Sometimes things are just out of control. Gets better though.

I work at a college library, Lyndy.(har-har)

One of my dearest and oldest(well, almost 51) friends died August '06 quite suddenly.

I was listening to The World Cafe(Public Radio International) a while back and the guest was Dolores O'Riordan(Cranberries).
Mike was a big fan like I am and it really hit me hard.

Yeah, it is getting better though. It is good to "talk" to you all again. Hey Lyra! And Mr. Mark of the Library! It is a college library, right? I remember I stole your map once upon a time. My daughters are teenagers now, so your youngest son is probably in college. I finished nursing school and passed my license test, so now I work as an RN in a local hospital. It is pretty good, very busy. Almost as much exercise as backpacking.

Yep, I've been Nationally Certified for about a year and a half now. Working for a local doctor and just applied to a clinical oncology massage program that starts in January. I love my work but I also love learning. Have been thinking about nursing but it just takes so dang long! Two years to wait before you can get into any programs in Michigan.

Hey its HPM! My daughter still talks about your haunted trail in the Smoky Mtns (I think). I read her your posting about hearing people at the campsite that were not there and she was really hooked on it. I hope I'm remembering this correctly; it was many years ago.

Thanks for all the good wishes about my Dad. He was a pretty good camper.

Did I insult Hyway? Did I get his details wrong or did he just get busy and go away?

I would love to move to the Charlotte area, as it would be closer to my relatives in Florida and closer to the area I went to college in (Greensboro), plus the mountains, beaches, Charleston. It would be nice. But if we have to go to Houston I will make the best of it.

The girls and do go backpacking and camping, just not as much as I'd like. Jason, my son, goes camping sometimes but he won't be backpacking anytime soon.

BTW, I am easily offended since I am a whiny biotch so please be tender with me.

We thought the corporation would ruin this place with heavy handedness. The exact opposite has happened, they don't give a damn how much blood we let as long as we don't make them read these pages.
