So, there will actually be hiking involved? I wonder if they have any maps at REI . . . might need a trip thread.

I haven't done an actual hiking TT trip since May.

I wanna hike and sleep in the woods.

I haven't done an actual hiking trip since . . . since . . . hell, I don't remember. Hiking season is here though, so let it rip. I need to get more than three miles under my legs for a change.

that is a really nice loop, one of my favorite hikes in PA and is home to the secret campsite.

We're headed to the Smokies next weekend, but I was thinking of backpacking somewhere in PA the following weekend and setting up a trip. The Loyalsock/Link loop was a hike I had in mind.

Mark, that loop isn't much of a buttkicker. It's 17 miles all told and a good size hill each day if you make it an overnighter. A lot of it is flattish to rolling plateau top terrain, but plenty of pretty scnery with a little of everything.

My $.02 ...

Pennsy always takes great pictures! Rich B and jackstraw took some nice ones too. Thanks for sharing, guys.

I liked the lots of people pix, including the close-ups.

Yellow Dog Run was a gusher!

Mr and Mrs Buddur ...may youans live happily ever after!

Fall colors were awesome!

Umbrellaman proves water is wet.

The Weird Tree.

Somebody levitated Pennsy's chair to the top of a pile of rocks.

Pennsy levitated himself to the top of a pile of rocks.

I can levitate birds, but no one seems impressed.

conconformist: A *crick* is what you get in your neck when you drink too much H2O.

Lyndy is buying a cabin in the woods?! (the woods is anything beyond New Joisey).

chili never showed up with his award-winning Creole Shrimp ...bummer.

Banjos! Bella Fleck, eat your heart out.

RoamAround collects peoples' stools ...I didn't know he worked in a medical lab.

There is a Loyalsock-OLP link?! What could it be?

Ursacks are good for catching drunk possums.

...... ummm, oh, I wasn't there?

Dang!

MarkO,

The Loyalsock/Link Loop is a fine trail, I was on it two weekends ago, several waterfalls and cascades, Sones Pond, some nice views.

Or you may hike the Loyalsock from Brunnerdale Rd. to Worlds End with 80 ft Angel Falls, High Knob Overlook, and awesome Ketchum Run Gorge, a real gem, lots of falls and cascades.

Well it looks like everyone somehow managed to have a good time even though I wasn't there. I'm glad you were all able to work through that. It's sounds like it was a classic, wish I could have made it.

The Loyalsock is my favorite PA trail. That is the trail that got me hooked into backpacking way long time ago.

BTW Mark, I do have the LT maps and guide book.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......

I'll be seeing YOU.

I'm thinkin' I'll go Nov 9-10.

What's the total distance on the Loyalsock Trail?
MarkOTheBeast
8:57:27 AM
10/31/07

the total distance of the trail is 59 miles.

For an overnighter, the Link/Loyalsock loop out of Worlds End State Park is your best bet.

lyra and I are headed to the Smokies Next weekend. We'll be gone from the 7-12th.

I can find a way to get the guide book and maps to you if you want them.

If you post a trip, I am sure you'll get some takers. I'd love to go if I were home.

How loopy is the Link Trail?

How far is that one?

Can I park at World's End and begin and end there?

MarkO

Yes, you can park at Worlds End and do the loop from there.

If hiking clockwise, there are some cool rock overhangs, boulders, and cliffs on the descent down to the loyalsock creek from Sones Pond, much of it off trail, but very cool area. I know you like that kind of scenery.

I dunno about that. There were lots of walking wounded staggering around camp Sunday morning.

Good times! I'm glad I survived Ms Doolittle's bourbon assault... forcing me to drink everytime the Sox scored on the Rox. and they scored a lot! Da noive of that girl.
