This will blow your mind.....

Forthcoming Close Approaches     (and keep scrolling down.....)

Those are just the ones that are documented.... I forget the percentage of the ones out there that we Haven't found yet, but last I heard we haven't even scratched the surface.

After this Mars thing, the SpaceWatch telescopes and similar programs will be getting a boost in funding!  Like how the people in Washington laughed about earth-crossing comets and asteroids..... until Shoemaker-Levy 9 hit Jupiter!   Then they stopped laughing and started signing checks.

We could use more resources looking for these things.  Last I heard, at the rate we're going it will take another 20 years to catalog all the little buggers they think may be out there.....

May be better off not know just HOW CLOSE...but hey its a slow day here at the house.

AU........ an Astronomical Unit (distance from the Sun to the Earth).... about 93 million miles or 8 light minutes.

There's good stuff at Wikikpedia

Like, the Moon is 0.0026 ± 0.0001 AU from the Earth.... That'd be only about 241,800 miles.

Sooooooooo........ an AU is Pretty Damn Big!     < G >       [about 385 times the distance to the moon!]

Astronomicalwise, 93 milion miles is like shoulder-to-shoulder, LOL

Looking at that Wiki link, it says Betelgeuse (that big red star in Orion's shoulder) is 2.57 AU across....... Soooooooo if Betegeouse was our star we'd be INSIDE it.   Way inside it.

Ain't that some #&%!$!!!

Sorry.... but nothing lasts "forever".   I think the Universe is supposed to burn out in about 50 billion years.
