“if the people that manage the technology that supports this community can't or won't fix something simple when it breaks what is going to happen when something major breaks? it you don't feel like boycotting TT for two weeks to make a point how will you feel when TT is down for two months because nobody was making backups and a hard drive crashes? how will you feel when you lose the archives of those great posts you made way back when or that classic trip plan or all your great photos? how will you feel the day it crashes and never comes back? how do you feel today because your new friends you introduce to TT can't sign up and participate in the community? it's already begun people. this is a great community but it's at the mercy of some inattentive people who need to wake up. we need to take matters into our own hands and control our own destiny. if we don't insert ourselves into the process of getting this site the attention it deserves then we should not be surprised when the day comes when we reach a result none of us desired.”

How do you know that's what we're talking about? Before you get too worked up over this, consider that your premise might be wrong.

As somebody familiar with computer program development, I'm aware that it is often the case that what sometimes seems simple to an end-user, isn't necessarily simple to the developer. For example, the suggestion I made today on the "hey elise" thread ... the way they do it now is a very simple program, but my suggestion is much more challenging, even though to the end user, it really seems like a minor modification. Little do they know that extra scripts are required to populate additional columns (which require additional storage), and they need to be optimized so as not to slow the site down.

Today I replied to somebody's email at work (exact quote): "(some requests aren't always as simple as they appear on the surface)" relating to this exact issue, so that's why it's on my mind.

Anyways, I believe elise said earlier that this problem has something to do with emails coming from them being filtered. When matt sent an email, being a smaller "company", he was less likely to be filtered. Demand Media has a whole new problem. The big problem is what is somewhat beyond their control - they aren't the ones doing the filtering, other "companies" (email servers) are. So they have to fix that! Interesting problem to solve, not so simple. I'm sure there is a solution, but it will likely take time at the very least to propagate the solution down to mail servers, even if they had a definite answer immediately.

That's why I think this boycott is silly, since you (kind'a) asked.”

I'm sorry if it's hard to read and easy to ignore, but sometimes when you lead a charge, you have to be willing to take the brunt of the bullets for your cause. Your cause is a joke and a waste. I don't mean to say you are - except for the recent unprovoked personal attacks, I usually think you're alright - but using very reasonable logic, this cause is a joke.
