25th Anniversary
Just learned that it was recently the 25th anniversary of this incredible and tragic boxing match. Anyone else remember it? For those who don't, it was an epic title bout in which an unheard of challenger, Kim, gave Mancini the fight of his life and in the end, died from the punishment he took during the match. There was a special program on ESPN Classics (?) last night.

Crash, was there much buzz about it over there?

I saw the fight on t.v.; definitely a bloody and heroic brawl on both parts.

Tragic story. I heard that within a year of the fight, both Kim's mother and the referee of the fight had committed suicide.

Also reminds me of the great song Duk Koo Kim by Sun Kill Moon:

i'd rather leave this world forever baby
than let life go the way it's going

watching an old fight film last night
Ray Mancini vs. Duk Koo Kim
the boy from Seoul was hanging in good
but the pounding took to him
and there in the square he lay alone
without face without crown
and the angel who looked upon
never came down

you never know what day could pick you baby
out of the air, out of nowhere

I saw it too.

That fight turned Howard Kosell away from being a boxing fan.

I could be wrong MarkO, but I don't think that was the one. I think it was some crappy heavyweight bout.
