old groin pull; current bruisingView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 18 of 18 messages posted.
Question “Last night I pulled down my pants and was quite suprised by what I saw. So was my wife. My innermost, top left thigh (that is groin muscle) has a dark purple linear bruise about 1 inch wide by 3 inches long. It extends in a less dark fashion along the same line another 4 inches around my thigh, but not quite up to the top of it. A total line of about 7 -8 inches. THere is no current explanation. That is, no current injury that I am aware of (hence the suprise). This week I have done my usual workouts, albeit I have increased both weight in lifting and distance and running. So Monday Wednesday I did squats at 25lb over body wieght (up from 15 pounds over body weight), as well as leg press, calf raises etc. And Tuesday Thursday I finally got out for my longer running route (about 47 minutes, somewhere just north of 5 miles). Yesterdays run was a bit more intense than I wanted because I ran with a friend who is faster (45 minutes, same route). And now the bruising. In the interest of full disclosure, I severly tore this side of my groin playing pond hockey last MARCH. It took a long time to be pain free. LONG TIME. Maybe September (6 months). I finally started doing the adductor machine at the gym. I started at 30 lb and have finally worked back to a more normal wieght for me. QUESTION: Is it possible for bruising from a nine month old groin tear to show up now???? The bruised area is somewhat sensitive to the touch, but certainly not painfull. I figured, Heck, why call a doctor when there is lots of free opinions on Traitalk” 7:38:12 AM 11/30/07 “sounds like some kind of internal bleeding. Your probably going to die soon. Better go check into that hospital in Jersey where House works. He's your only hope.” 7:39:33 AM 11/30/07 “Last night I pulled down my pants and was quite suprised by what I saw. So was my wife. It's called a pen|s. Other than that smartass remark I have nothing more to add other than I hope you heal quickly. last edited: 11/30/07 7:40:30 AM” 7:40:29 AM 11/30/07 “Sounds like a muscle tear. Some can be minor, some can be permanently damaging.” 7:41:11 AM 11/30/07 “http://wrongdiagnosis.com/symptoms/groin_bruise/common.htm http://www.sportsinjurybulletin.com/archive/1054-groin-strain.htm” 7:46:11 AM 11/30/07 “So, Lee, now give us the REALLY TRUE FULL DISCLOSURE, that you are getting us to come up with excuses for. ;-)” 11:15:09 AM 11/30/07 “lizs - trying to get an expose' on Lee's entry to the rough trade?” 11:49:16 AM 11/30/07 “Man pulls groin. Man bruises groin. Man exposes groin.” 11:54:03 AM 11/30/07 “I had the same bruising pattern, 7-8 inches long, etc, until I switched from boxers to briefs. Evidently the swing factor was a little severe.” 12:00:09 PM 11/30/07 “Sounds like Nimble is a candidate for a PA. That is one of the stories behind the original.” 12:03:44 PM 11/30/07 well liz “I wasn't going to air this pubicly (haha hah that's like a triple entendre), but that hickey you gave me on the inside of my thigh has gotten completely out of control (much like you were completely out of control when you gave it to me). Just today it has grown by a couple of inches (again . .I crack myself up). Seriously you chuckleheads!! Any ideas?! Spontaneous internal bleeding in my leg . .shoudl I be concerned? Could running have jarred loose something from the tear 9 months ago?” 12:24:53 PM 11/30/07 “I would have it checked. Blood poisoning (actually I think it's lymph poisoning) looks like a red line that advances and can be dangerous if not treated early. Go see a real doctor.” 12:27:41 PM 11/30/07 “oreo In any event a visit to the ol' sawbones is in order.” 12:29:23 PM 11/30/07 “Could running have jarred loose something from the tear 9 months ago?” lee 2:24:53 PM 11/30/07 If so, clots floating around doesn't sound like a good thing. It's called a pen|s. last edited: 11/30/07 9:40:30 AM” humanpackmule 9:40:29 AM 11/30/07 Neither of them had seen one before so it shocked them.” 12:30:37 PM 11/30/07 I may have an answer “I just called the guy I went running with to blame him for my ills (no, he didn't give me the hcikey, Lizs did!!!!) He reminded me, that, klutz that I am, I tripped going over a guardrail on our run. I don't remember catching the inside of my thigh. You would think that I'd remember, especially given how high it was (lucky I didn't damage the boys!!). I only remember getting my shoe hung up . . . but the bruise is in such a straight line, and is growing along a thin red line . . .(that could be from the sharp edge of the guardrail). I know I got well hung up on it . .. .so maybe it did get my thigh involved. Well . .. ..will see. I have a call into my absolutely gorgeous physician's assistant . .. .she is AMAZING. So it will be worth the $20 co-pay to ahve her check it out. Maybe we should check out the rest of my tackle too . .. .just to be sure it works.” 12:50:50 PM 11/30/07 dayhiker “Sad . . ..but true. With two kids, and old house with no privacy . .. .everything gets done in the dead of night with the lights off .. .or it doesn't get done at all (who is going to be the first to make the joke about my wife not even waking up . . . . (oh wait . . .it was me))” 12:52:24 PM 11/30/07 “My 2cents worth--yes, you can re-tear something, maybe not even the groin muscle, but a torn blood vessel is more like it, since you don't have much pain. Have you been taking much ibuprofen or aspirin? That will cause more bleeding and bruising. Also some herbal supplements and plants can increast clotting time and cause the bruising to be worse. As a labor and delivery nurse, we always put ice on that area to help with bruising! I would try ice, then pull down your pants for another surprise!” 1:07:06 PM 11/30/07 “I know what you mean. My older 2 are just getting old enough that we have to lock doors now.” 1:10:57 PM 11/30/07
