Page 78 if the Feb 2008 issue of Backpacker Magazine talks about sighting a "Moonbow"...like a rainbow, but made with moonlight. They are very rare with Lower Yosemite Falls being a place for sightings. Anyone ever seen a Moonbow?

Hey Phil, say hello to the family for me.
I have talked to many persons who live in the cumberland area and they have not seen any.
Best time for view is full moon late fall and early winter. Been there twice in those times and only saw lots of wishful people and my breath. There is another place victoria falls africa, wanna go? J/K Yo bear!

I saw moonbows quite often in Florida. Thanks to it almost being winter here I now see sundogs during the day and moonbows at night, but only around the full moon.

I have seen the Norther Lights many times as well as dozens of falling stars/ meteors, but never a moonbow. That would be very cool. Is location the big thing or is it possible to sight them anywhere?

The only place I have seen one is at Cumberland Falls.

I always assumed you needed a pretty good mist along with a lot of open space for light refraction.

That photo does is neat, but I have been there also and that photo does not show as well as the real thing. It is a amazing sight, best seen in the winter time.

I sounds like all the conditions have to be just right. Cumberland Falls and Yosemite Falls seem to have the best conditions. Also, you can pick the days around a full moon to try your luck.

neat!
Holy smokes! That is awesome!!! I've got to see one at some point in my life now. I wasn't sure what a moonbow could be until i read this topic... Never heard of it before. I thought it sounded like some kind of hunting device.

I think so... These were photographed at Los Cruzeros at Henry Coe State Park two years ago. It was before sunrise and there was a full moon that night.

In the midnight moonlight I'll....   be walkin a long and lonely mile
And every time I do....   I keep seeing this picture of you...

Here comes my baby, here she comes now
And it comes as no surprise to me, with some other guy
Here comes my baby, here she comes now
Walking with a love, with a love that's oh so fine
Never to be mine, no matter how I try....

You never walk alone, and you're forever talking on the phone
I've tried to call you names, but every time it comes out the same

Here comes my baby, here she comes now
And it comes as no surprise to me, with some other guy
Here comes my baby, here she comes now
Walking with a love, with a love that's oh so fine
Never to be mine, no matter how I try....

I'm still waiting for your heart, 'cause I'm sure that someday it's going to start
You'll be mine to hold each day, but 'til then this is all I can say:

Here comes my baby, here she comes now
And it comes as no surprise to me, with some other guy
Here comes my baby, here she comes now
Walking with a love, with a love that's oh so fine
Never to be mine, no matter how I try....

We saw a moonbow at Volcanoes NP in Hawaii.

We went to see the lava flows at night. On the ride back, with a full moon, we saw a spectacular moonbow over the surreal moonscape of the park.

It's the only one I've ever seen, but it was a great one.
