Me - thermals, maybe a long sleeve t-shirt, fleece, socks (duh!), gloves, hat, heat pack, fleece liner in my bag.” 2:57:47 AM 12/05/07 “boxers, tshirt, fleece cap, and bag liner (I use the liner year round to keep my bags cleaner).” 3:25:53 AM 12/05/07 “cap, t-shirt, underoos (fantastic four are my fav.) socks.” 4:34:56 AM 12/05/07 “butt-nekid......unless I'm on the trail, then I put on something warmer.....” 4:45:32 AM 12/05/07 “Whatever floozy I can drag home from the Casino.” 5:09:36 AM 12/05/07 “I presume we`re talking about sleeping in a tent here ? Well not to be rude but 1st thing is to have my wife beside me....she throws off more heat then a blast furnace,a well as long johns, gloves and a tuke for my head.” 5:16:13 AM 12/05/07 “Thin but warm fleece pants from Cabela's and ditto on the top. Down sleepies socks. Turtlefur hat and REI fleece gloves. If it's really cold I usually have toe warmers and hand warmers as well.” 6:48:44 AM 12/05/07 “Nimblefoot, i love you! that is epic!” 7:03:17 AM 12/05/07 “I'm an epic kinda guy:)” 7:40:12 AM 12/05/07 “Socks and a long-sleeved shirt.” 7:51:52 AM 12/05/07 “Does Danman know about the out-of-context thread? Truth be told --- if it's actually Cold, I'll remove my boots and put on the down booties, then I get in the sleeping bag almost fully clothed and zip it up about halfway (to warm it up first)..... And I wake up just like that about half the time, LOL That 'method' does come in handy if you don't have a pee bottle and have to jump out into the cold at 5 am.” 8:18:33 AM 12/05/07 What do you wear to bed in the cold? “A treebeard nough said” 8:25:11 AM 12/05/07 “If it's really cold (and for me that's about all the time) I wear a few fleece layers along with my fleece cap. Not having any hair means I am sleeping with a cap on most of the time---assuming you're talking camping out. Of course Tarabull and I also own mating sleeping bags......” 10:06:56 AM 12/05/07 “silk longjohns, down booties, mittens and cap.” 10:06:57 AM 12/05/07 “Of course Tarabull and I also own mating sleeping bags......” Nonconformist 11:06:56 AM 12/05/07 I have to ask...what is a mating sleeping bag” 10:08:27 AM 12/05/07 “That depends. Who's there with me? ;)” 10:09:05 AM 12/05/07 “When a mommy sleeping bag really loves a daddy sleeping bag, sometimes they mate and make down booties.” 10:09:25 AM 12/05/07 “mating bags are the greatest!! Just by chance we got two lafuma bags at different times not even thinking about if they'd match up. I got bored one evening and started organizing gear...EUREKA!” 10:53:47 AM 12/05/07 Sigh! “My bags are left-hand zips in the hope of meeting a right-hand zip with a woman in it. Ah well, happy Holidays, everyone.” 11:00:25 AM 12/05/07 “I dunno. Guess it's just me, but after working up some serious hiker funk all day, I don't think I would want to sleep THAT close to my partner. And vice versa.” 11:09:48 AM 12/05/07 “"Of course Tarabull and I also own mating sleeping bags......” Nonconformist 12:06:56 PM 12/05/07" DANG!!!! Even your sleeping bags are getting it more than I am!” 11:52:27 AM 12/05/07 “Looks like you'll have to plan a trip to da UP! (winky-winky)” 12:25:52 PM 12/05/07 ““I dunno. Guess it's just me, but after working up some serious hiker funk all day, I don't think I would want to sleep THAT close to my partner. And vice versa.” That's why you take a ho bath at the end of the day! ”12:33:03 PM 12/05/07 “Who you calling a ho?” 12:44:15 PM 12/05/07 “Who's that standing outside your tent?” 12:52:12 PM 12/05/07 “LOL @ Tilt! Some doggie is trying to get a peep show.” 12:55:08 PM 12/05/07 ““Who you calling a ho?” I had better say, "me" before I get in any more trouble. :D “Who's that standing outside your tent?” That is Sam. ”1:51:40 PM 12/05/07 “a-HA! The old "Black & Tan's Toes Under The Tent" routine....” 2:04:09 PM 12/05/07 “Aye, he isn't very fond of not being in the tent when I'm in there, but he is patient with me while I change and whatnot.” 2:12:10 PM 12/05/07 “A border terrier.” 2:15:15 PM 12/05/07 “the dog paws in the photo, and dog getting the peep show........that is too cute!!!!!!” 2:21:42 PM 12/05/07 “What do you wear to bed in the cold? My bag. (Couldn't help it) Actually, I wear everything I own, and then lay a down coat upside down over the bottom half of me so that my feet are in the hood, and the tail comes up past my waist. This help keep my feet extra warm. The reason I wear so much is I need an actual winter bag, but refuse to miss a trip just because it's cold! ;-) SUCK IT UP BUTTERCUP! LOL!” 2:31:40 PM 12/05/07 “I should have added that when its really cold I put on my thong-johns. They are rabbit fur lined.” 3:24:27 PM 12/05/07 “god your sexy birch! LOL! Too bad you aren't coming to the mobfest. You could model them for us all. Excuse me while I go cry quietly...” 3:27:37 PM 12/05/07 “microfleece long underwear and a hat, and i climb into my bag clean always.” 3:50:10 PM 12/05/07 “Single female, right hand zip seeks single male, left hand zip. ::bats eyelashes:: I'm a cold sleeper so I layer. I wear either a pair of wool leggins or fleece pants under my nylon hikers. Wool leggins are for really low temps cuz otherwise I cook in those things. Fleece socks over my feet with a down vest on standby in the tent to stuff down in the bottom of my bag for extra insulation if needed. A base layer long sleeve poly top, fleece vest and/or a Marmot wind shirt for the upper half. I use a balaclava over my head, neck, and partial face if I really need it. Any of the extra layers make a nice pillow until I need to make use of them on the body or in the bag. I use the same bag all year round and the layer system in the winter is the only thing I've found that works for me. I used to have a neg. 15 degree bag that I still slept cold in. Tried sleeping in next to nothing thinking I was getting too hot and losing body heat through perspiration from wearing clothing inside the bag. That didn't work, so I tried the layer system and never found one that worked quite right. Go figure the lighter bag keeps me warmer. I only recently started carrying a bag liner, I'm not sure I see a real value to it yet though; at least for me personally.” 10:39:31 PM 12/05/07 “WTF...okay I am out in Kings Mountain this weekend. First night gets to about OH right around freezing. I figure my Moonstone (thought it was a 10F bag) was just poorly rated. The next night I switch to a TNF Snowshoe 0F Bag (it got to 21F)....still waking up every 3 hours shivering, get a piece of chocolate, roll around and finally doze off again....I wear a hat, I make sure I am on good insulation...WHAT amd I doing wrong?” 7:42:43 AM 1/28/08 “try sleeping naked with the hat on your head. Works every time.” 7:43:42 AM 1/28/08 “WHAT amd I doing wrong? You're assuming the manufactures temp ratings apply to everybody. Next time, go nude in your sack. (old Army trick ... although I think they stole it from the Navy, LOL)” 7:45:17 AM 1/28/08 “Make sure you arn't getting damp from sweating. even the tinyiest bit of damp makes a diffrence.” 7:47:39 AM 1/28/08 “What tent did you use? Did you put a blanket over your sleeping bag? ... don't.” 7:50:09 AM 1/28/08 “I think it's obvious. You need a young, pretty woman to share the sleeping bag with you. Works every time for me.” 7:52:39 AM 1/28/08 “What sleeping pad did you use? Did you got cold from the ground?” 7:53:06 AM 1/28/08 “Clean dry pair of long john top and bottom. Knit hat. Staying warm in a sleeping bag depends on two things. A bag with sufficient insulation and minimizing evaporative cooling. Too many clothes will create sweat and cause evaporative cooling to make you cold. Changing into dry long johns insures you don't have moisture or water vapor in your clothing. Ever prop your stocking feet near the fire. See all the steam coming off? Your skivies will do the same thing. Put on some dry clothes before bed.” 7:54:03 AM 1/28/08 “Yeah right. I am too looking for a nice, right-zip guy. Would be much so nicer than hugging a couple of hand warmer packs.” 7:57:27 AM 1/28/08 “Bacpac, I did the dry long johns, I use a hat in winter (needless to say since I have little if any hair) I am thinking about the "sweating thing" but normally when that happens I can feel the cold in the center of my back. This weekend it could have been that most likely I was running a temp (yeah I went freaking hiking with a bad cold). I have tried the naked sleeping....and it was discarded since normally I have a group of scouts around the area. I am the medic meaning if one gets sick that would require me getting dressed to go outside....(LOL)” 8:00:22 AM 1/28/08 “I have a pair of 50/50 longjohns that are cut off into long shorts. Bacpac has a good suggestion. Put something dry on before you hit the hay.” 8:01:06 AM 1/28/08 “I have tried the naked sleeping....and it was discarded since normally I have a group of scouts around the area. I am the medic meaning if one gets sick that would require me getting dressed to go outside....(LOL) The first rule in wilderness first aid is to not create more victims. The LAST thing the kids need is their medic coming down with hypothermia, something probably none of them have any clue how to deal with. Keep your clothes nearby and ready to throw on.” 8:03:25 AM 1/28/08 “Shlt, give the boys an education.” 8:18:11 AM 1/28/08 “I prefer wearing a 6'0"ish, fury guy to bed. It is the best method for staying warm. last edited: 1/28/08 11:55:25 AM” 11:54:44 AM 1/28/08
