The LHT is sweeet because you get to stay in a shelter with its own fireplace and the parks dept supplies cut wood. Cushy camping for sure, but a great winter escape close to home also.”

Ski Tour from Methow Valley to Stehekin, crossing the divide between drainages. Scanned from a 30 year old slide.



Another one from a ski tour from Methow Valley to Stehekin. Each skier crossing this icy gulley cut a layer of snow off, and it went sliding down the icy gulley. We did not want to fall at this spot, and carrying a 60 pound pack did not make the skiing any easier. Scanned from a 30 year old slide.

“The Laurel Highlands Trail is about an hour east of Pittsburgh. It is a 70 mile trail with designated camping areas and shelters are via reservation @ $3/night per person (PA residents) and $4/person for everyone else. This is not a dificult trail and the only significant hills are in the southern 6 miles. It is perfect for groups and is used heavily in warmer weather. That is typically why I go in the winter.”
