lots of times there are threads that open in the trip pages that do not appear on Trail talk. A lot of planning goes on that way.

It's funny. The year we did the Beartooths, you'all did a trip to the Beartooths. The year we went to Alaska, there was a trip to the Kenai. This year we're probably going to Idaho, so what do I see but a trip to the Sawtooths. You'all have to quit following us!

Pettite to Redfish, you’re going to love the Crammer Divide. You will pass near my favorite Sawtooth place, Tenlake Basin. Ardeth Lake is the big lake in the basin and is just west of Vernon, Edna and Virginia Lakes over the hill. This is a better route than going by Imogene Lake. Imogene is wonderful but typically more crowded and with less spectacular country (though still great) between it and Redfish. Take some cash and use the Redfish shuttle boat. It picks up at the inlet end of the lake every hour or so. It will save 5 mile of not so great of hiking on a busy dusty trail. That trail does have good views of Redfish but I now always use the shuttle to extend my time deeper into the wilderness. Check Redfish Lodge’s wed site for info. Have fun.

I've been to Toxaway and Imogene lakes, where are in the same general area, but never the nice lakes you are going by. My summer is pretty full with scout hikes, but I would like to try to squeeze this hike in. Its in wonderful country. Are you starting at Redfish or Petit?

Oldog, I'm in. The dates are perfect for me, and the area looks beautiful! Looking forward to it. Will the hike start pn Sat or Sun? I'm looking at airlines and need to know when to book flights. See ya!

This is Imogene lane, just over the hill from your route. The Tenlake Basin must be full of lakes like this. I've heard some have good great fishing.

This is Alice Lake, probably the first lake you hit if your route starts at Petit Lake.

Another view of Alice lake.

View of Sunnyside Lakes from Sunnyside pass, between Alice and Toxaway Lakes.

Are you planning to take the trail to Sheep Lake in the Seven Devils? That lake is awesome and one of the bigger lakes in the area and surrounded by She Devil and He Devil Peaks and other nice peaks. You can get there by a 9 mile trail, which is a tough all day hike, or by a 2 mile shortcut that takes half a day. Both start at the same place. Interested?
