You'll have to do it agin on Saturday night because I probably wont make it on Friday. Two vacation days for a weekend hike is a bit extravagant especially considering the jam packed year '08 is looking like it's gonna be.”

“I work downtown so you pick a day, dosen't matter to me.”

“Where should Saturday arrivals meet up with the group? This trip is close enought for me to go.”

“Saturday we will meet at the second parking lot around 10AM. We will leave at 10 and head towards the campsite on the southern most point on the cope hollow loop.”

“Sounds like a plan Wounded - I'll check my calendar when I return to Chicago and we'll set something up. BTW - Mt. Washington was unreal - got a crystal clear day at the summit. I'll share some pics a little later.

“Camping in the backyard tonight to better understand the limits of my sleeping bags/tent. Gonna be in the low 20s with below zero wind chills.

I can always bail.......lol”

“I made a fleece sleeping bag liner last year to try and get a few more degrees out of my three season bag. My wife used and Peeperfest last year, so I am not sure how much it helped. (She is always cold)

I can't bring myself to buy a winter bag that I will only use once a season.

Hopefully it won't be incredibly cold”

“Well, it wasn't too bad. Right now it is 21° with 20+ winds outside (below zero wind chill) and has been such for a couple hours. The tent is ice covered (freezing rain/snow over night). I thought I was gonna have a hard time getting the zipper up on the fly (Lunar Solo).

I used my 30° bag to see what its limits were. Tonight was close. I got chilled just a tad but it is nice to know that the 30° bag will make it in these conditions in a pinch.”

“That Lunar Solo will not work with heavy snow!!!! Me, Attila and Windi Girl used ours last year and it snowed a heavy, wet 3 inches. We were knocking the snow off the tents all night. I woke up a couple o times with the tent sagging so bad it was laying on me!!

“Randall is right about the Lunar Solo and snow. My tent was in the best shape by morning because I didn't sleep much. I kept hitting the sides of my tent to keep the snow from building up. I don't know if the Lunar Duo will do any better. I will find out in the next couple of months. :)”

Good to hear Nic...The seed has been active, very active. Grace was and for the most part, has been easy. I have a feeling we may have the spawn of Satan coming soon.


Hoping the the temps will be at least 40 degrees during the day. Really want to show off my chicken legs in that kilt.

Take 446 out of Bloomington south. Cross Lake Monroe and turn left on Tower Road about 3 miles past the lake.”

You should use Heltonville, In. That'll put you even closer!! LOL
The "Deem" is north of it by about 4 miles on 446. You turn off of 446 at Tower Ridge Road (You can only turn to the East) and that is the entrance to the Deem Wilderness.
