How to Prep a Tofurkey!
get a bread ban.
losely wrap the tofurkey (thawed) in tin foil, leave a side open
add the following ingredients
one red or green apple very thinly sliced
one cup of dried berries (trader joes makes a great 4 berry blend - cherries, cranberries, blueberries and some other berry
one cup of crushed walnuts
one cup of fresh orange juice or all natural orange juice
1/2 cup of apricot preserves
1/2 cup of soy sauce

wrap up the tofurkey kinda tight in the foil and cook for 3 hours at 375. periodically baste the tofurkey with the juices you are cooking it in. or just flip the whole thing over in the foil in the pan.
tofurkey makes a gravy, but i don't think it goes well with this recipe. oh once it's cooked. some drain about 3/4 of the juice/soy that didn't absorb into the tofurkey, keep the rest. thinly slice the roast and throw all the fixings over the slices, lightly drizzle the rest of the orange soy over it all once it's sliced.
enjoy.

yuckerama!

not the tofurkey itself, but the idea of the green giant pinching out a loaf.

I'm trying to go veggie. Getting closer and closer.

Rosey, you sick #&%!$!

I used to think soy was awesome, but now I don't eat/drink it as much. I read some holistic child healthcare book that says it's basically poisonous! Sweet, LOL.

What?? It's soy. How can that be poisonous?

I probably eat straight veg about 1/2 of the time. We have a REALLY good vegan Vietnamese restuarant up the street from us that really has some of the best vegetarian food I've ever had. If I could cook like that, I'd probably be perfectly content not eating meat ever again.

I did read somewhere that soy has some negative effects but only if you make a significant part of your overall diet. It's used in so many products that in general people tend to get more than they should and making it a planned part of your diet pushes you over the edge.

the article i read talked about increasing estrogen levels more than anything. Yes, in men too.

can you say "man-boobs"?

Well this is what Child Health Guide by Randall Neustaedter says:

"Soy product consumption has been linked to a long list of diseases and hormone dysfunctions in children, including thyroid disease, mineral malabsorption, diabetes, and abnormal sexual development."

I'd still rather eat some tofu at a Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant than meat! I do eat soy occasionally, but I started buying almond milk instead of soymilk, and I won't feed it to the baby. Old Dr. Neustaedter is like the most granola health specialist out there, also.

I'm only a B Cup. Anything more than a handful is a waste...

Seriously. I am back in school for environmental policy and wrote a paper on endocrine disruptors, specifically synthetic estrogen, in the environment (The Pill). Pretty scarry stuff.

Oh, and I just chucked my Nalgenes for Sigg bottles.

I would imagine a lot of the babies that had those problems were given soy formula...meaning it was their entire diet, or close to it.

No, I haven't really mentioned it to anyone on here yet. I am not sure what compelled me but I it's hard to keep a secret for so long! We actually haven't mentioned it to anyone because she is only 8 weeks. But, I'm feeling confident it's a go.

Well congratulations, that rocks! :-)

Yeah it was very hard to wait to tell people, I know what you mean! I think we waited until I was 9 weeks (or 11 weeks, depending on how you count) to tell people on here.

If you want me to tell you all the awesome pregnancy/birth/child healthcare books I've read so far, I would be just delighted! heehee.

Well my list is mainly granola, but I will email it to you! I don't see your address in your profile, but if you email me I'll reply. I've read about a billion books so far, and about half of them sucked, so I could at least tell you the non-sucky ones...but I guess it depends on what you like!

my fav book when preggers was something like your pregnancy week by week or maybe it was month by month. Anyway, it was really cool to be able to go to that book and see all the stats on what baby was doing at that moment.
