I'm hoping to be there around 7 pm. If you want I can call you when I'm at near the parking area and you can meet me there or I can hike in, get set up and then head back out. I think I'm going to hike to where my car will be parked at on Saturday. There is a chance that I might be staying on Saturday and hiking Sunday. Not sure yet.

Windi,
Thanks for the info. I was thinking of getting there around 3:00 PM and getting some firewood stored up, etc.etc. I can hike out and meet you when you get there. Maybe the other folks will get there earlier and I might be able to get the shuttle set up before then. I guess we'll just see how it all falls into place! LOL
See ya later.

chin id be interested in starting at bonwell also. I guess that would mean starting early on saturday and hiking from wolf creek to bonwell to complete the loop sunday, rite? I know the west side of the lake is about 9.5 miles.

randall what time is the rest of the group starting out saturday morning. also I do not have the gps location of 'Campsticks'. although I do have the route from garr hill to wolf creek on gps from that trip.

Jerky!!
Well, now it looks like I HAVE to come if you guys are outta beef jerky. :) Good excuse. I'm seriously leaning towards this trip. I should be able to leave straight from work and get there early evening. After 6 weeks of a holiday event, Kodie and I could use some trail time.

Randall, I'll give you a shout when I know for sure. I could help with shuttles if needed.

We are planning on meeting at 10:00 AM local time. That will give us about seven hours of daylight to get to camp. It will be interesting to see you guys do the 17 miles before dark on Saturday!! LOL.
If you need help with Campsticks just check out the other posts or the trip page as the directions are there. There are some slack packing options with this trip if that's something your into!! (That don’t sound like you though!!)

Hey All!!
The creeks should not be bad, but you need to bring something to cross in just in case. I will just bring my crocs.
Attila,
The section that you asked about is marked pretty well, I don't think you'll have a problem if that what you decide to do.

Hey Windi!!!
At the most we might be 4.5 miles from the causeway!! It is a moderate 4.5 miles at that. Usually takes less than 2.5 hours and that's if you take some long breaks. Are you thinking of parking on the west side of the causeway and hiking in??

Randall,
As I'm looking at my GPS map around Brookville lake there seems to a few roads that might be close to the trail on the East side. Do you know anything about this and if so, how close is it to the trail? Is there a place where I might leave my car so I can get home early on Sunday?

I'm keeping tabs on the weather. If this cold snap doesn't break, I don't think I'll make it. I don't have gear for these temperatures. If it warms up a bit, I'm in. I'll keep you updated.

Hey J
I have some down booties you can use as well!
If you put those on and sleep in that 15 degree bag that chin is taliking about you won't get cold!! Not in the forecasted temps!! Do you have a Down Jacket??? We mostly use those in camp and stick to fleece and long underwear for the hiking stuff.
Cabelas is having a sale on thier Jackets and I have this one and is works great!!( Mine is a male's)

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=wom122107-door&id=0040746970163a&navCount=1&podId=0040746&parentId=cat603274&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=OG&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat603274&hasJS=true

I could pick it up for you if ya want one. The store is 3 miles from my house. It weighs about 1 lb!! That's the best price I have seen on them yet.

Down Jacket
Randall-I do not have a down jacket or anything heavier than fleece...really that's why I was a bit concerned about the temps...and that my bag is only 20 degree. that is a really great price on the jacket. If I get that I could always sleep in it!!! :) I'll check my fund situation and let you know. I might be interested in having you pick one up for me.

My bou Jacob is going to come with me I will not be able to get there at 3:00 for he will not get off the bus until 3:00 maybe get there about 5:00 or a little after.

What do you think the quickest route over there is Connersville and then South over to the Causeway or 74 then Up?
coyote820
1:39:32 PM
1/03/08

Coyote, It's about the same either way. If you are going to the south end of the lake then take 74. North end then take 70. I have been both routes and don't think there is really any difference in travel time.

I'm still kicking around hiking the whole thing on Sunday. If anyone want to come along they are welcome. I will be rolling through your camp at or just after dawn, and will be finishing up back at the west side of the causeway on Sunday night, then driving back to Indy. Somebody call me or e-mail if they are interested.

Hey guys! The wx is looking pretty sweet for this. If I come, I will drive out on Sat night, and hike on Sunday. There's too many posts up there ot figure out what is going on. Exactly where are you all going to be Sat night? I know the west side but how far south of the causeway? I won't be getting there till at least 1030PM and could be as late as 1100. This trail is followable during the day, but at night it could really be a disaster.
meangreen
3:39:27 PM
1/03/08

I don't think the west side from the causeway to our campsite (wherever that may end up) is too difficult to follow. There is one tricky switchback that I can remember. Near Wolf Creek there are TWO difficult turns. Always remember, the trail is VERY well-blazed. If you don't see a blaze soon you are off it.......go back.

I think you are better off just hiking on Sunday. That way you won't have to carry as much.

That was the plan.I may even get a hotel here in Indy, and drive out there very early on Sunday morn if I do this. I would really like some company though. I would be able to take whoever back to their cars on Sunday night, or they could bail when we get to their cars or what ever. Hell, I may bail when I get to someone else's car! LOL! I'm just throwin this all together cause I want to get out, and don't have much time so I'll take what I can get!

Hey Dude!!
Follow the blazes and just don't miss the switchback right after Saltwell creek!! (thats the first real creek you would come too, right about at mile 1 from the trailhead or so!!)It goes to the left and up about 1/4 mile south of the creek crossing!!
Do you have a GPS??
